Akasa Air enhances pets on-board offering

One of the most significant pain points for pet parents has been the policy of Indian airlines not to carry pets. There are legitimate reasons for this as well. The airline may not be operating an aircraft with a temperature-controlled hold or might not want to inconvenience passengers on board, whose own fears might be unfounded. Akasa, in 2022, became one of the only airlines in India to offer the ability to travel with your pet on board. Since then, they’ve transported 3200+ pets.

Akasa will allow bigger pets to travel on board

As part of the enhancements, Akasa Air now allows customers to travel with pets weighing up to 10 kgs (including the weight of the container) in the cabin – an increase from the previous limit of 7 kgs. Akasa says this enhancement has been introduced keeping customer feedback in mind.

In addition, Akasa Air is implementing an enhanced travel certificate policy to provide greater flexibility for customers. Travel certificates issued for pets will now remain valid for up to 15 days instead of three days, adding convenience for customers booked on return for short-term travel. Customers travelling for longer than 15 days will be required to obtain a new travel certificate.

Customers booked with their pets on Akasa Air will also receive a host of complimentary value-added services such as a pre-booked window seat, priority baggage delivery and priority boarding.

Bottomline

Akasa will now allow pet parents to bring their larger pets along, on board, or in the cargo hold of the aircraft with them. The weight of pets welcome on board now is 10 kgs, a bump up from the earlier 7 kgs.

What do you think of Akasa’s plans to allow larger pets on board their aircraft?
