Three years ago, Akasa came to life with its first flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on this date. Let’s take a look at the airline’s growth as it completes three years.
Akasa completes three years
Akasa Air today celebrates three successful years of operations. From its inaugural flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on August 7, 2022, Akasa has since become a significant player in Indian aviation, driven by the ambition to reimagine air travel in India by setting new benchmarks in reliability, empathy, and service excellence.
In just 36 months, Akasa Air has served over 19 million passengers, with a notable increase of 8 million passengers in the last 12 months. It continues to register industry-leading load factors of over 87%, reflecting the strengthening trust of travellers in India and beyond.
Commenting on performance, Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air, said:
Akasa was born out of a belief that building a great airline requires more than ambition; it requires discipline, purpose, and heart. In just three years, we have proven that it is possible to scale rapidly, deliver consistently, and stay deeply human in how we operate. We are not just growing fast, we are growing right, marked by our steadfast commitment to world-class safety, deep investment in our people, and an obsession with every detail of our customer experience. With over 19 million passengers flown, an engaged workforce of over 4700 Akasians, and a consistent record of operational excellence, Akasa is poised to become a generational institution in global aviation and remains firmly anchored to its long-term vision of being among the top 30 airlines globally by the end of this decade.
He added,
I am incredibly proud of our team of 4700+ Akasians, grateful for the trust of our passengers, the unwavering support of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA, the faith displayed by our investors and excited for the future we are shaping, which puts safety, purpose, and people at the heart of aviation’s next chapter. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to building an airline that India can be proud of, and one that is ready to lead in the global skies.
Here is an infographic that Akasa published about their journey so far.

Operational excellence
Akasa Air achieved significant operational milestones, underscoring its disciplined and precision-led growth strategy. With over 100,000 total departures, including more than 3,800 international flights, the airline has scaled its operations while maintaining the lowest cancellation rate and industry-leading on-time performance in Indian aviation. Akasa has transported over 131,000 tonnes of cargo, positioning itself as a significant contributor to India’s cargo ecosystem.
Financial resilience and discipline
Akasa’s growth has been matched by strong financial stewardship. In FY 25, the airline registered a 49% increase in revenue year-over-year, driven by disciplined expansion and rising unit profitability. Capacity in terms of Available Seat Kilometres (or ASKs) grew at a rate of 48% compared to FY24. The airline also signed agreements with marquee investors for a fresh capital infusion, pending statutory approvals. This investment will strengthen Akasa’s balance sheet and provide the financial runway to accelerate its long-term growth strategy, ensuring resilience in a dynamic aviation landscape. Akasa’s financial strategy, rooted in cost leadership, network optimisation, and prudent expansion, positions it for sustainable profitability in a competitive market.
Network built
Akasa Air scaled its fleet to 30 aircraft, serving 28 destinations, comprising 23 domestic and five international cities. The airline’s ambition to be a global carrier took another significant step forward with the activation of its first codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways in March 2025.
Commitment to service excellence
Akasa Air has always focused on raising the bar for air travel in India, with its multiple industry-first and customer-friendly offerings. Through Café Akasa, the airline has served over 6.4 million meals, offering passengers a gourmet in-flight dining experience that includes healthy options, festive meals, and industry-first beverages, such as Kombucha. The airline has flown over 7100 pets across its network through its pet travel service, Pets on Akasa. Its fleet provides ample legroom, enhanced comfort and is equipped with a USB port. Akasa Air offers over 25 ancillary products, including Akasa GetEarly, Seat & Meal Deal, Extra Seat, and Akasa Holidays, ensuring a highly personalised and seamless journey. With customer-centric innovations like SkyScore by Akasa, SkyLights, QuietFlights, and a Braille safety and menu card for visually impaired passengers, Akasa tries to set new standards for inclusivity and thoughtfulness in aviation.
Looking ahead
Akasa intends to expand its presence in key markets, such as Delhi, and will leverage the upcoming Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airports to build its network. Akasa Air says it will expand its global footprint by foraying into new regions, including SAARC and ASEAN, over the next few years. The airline expects to have a fleet of 30 or more aircraft by the end of this year. Akasa Air projects its Capacity in terms of ASKs to grow at over 30% in the current fiscal and translate this progress into a continued upward trajectory in RASK.
Bottomline
Akasa, which was the fastest growing airline (given the rapid induction of the first 18 or so airplanes), had to reduce its ambition because of the cap on Boeing for only assembling 38 737 MAX jets at the moment on a monthly basis. The airline is poised for a significant expansion, with two new airports on the horizon in India, and the airline itself hopes to acquire additional aircraft from Boeing soon.
