AirFi partners with IndiGo on inflight entertainment trial

One of the changes coming at IndiGo is their exploration of inflight IFE. In April 2024, we first learned about the trials of IFE to start onboard IndiGo. Currently, IndiGo is only offering the inflight entertainment trial on its Delhi—Goa flights.

AirFi is IndiGo’s inflight entertainment partner.

IndiGo selected portable inflight entertainment (IFE) provider AirFi to embark on a three-month wireless, streaming, in-flight entertainment trial. From May 1, AirFi’s solution was activated onboard flights between Delhi and Goa.AirFi’s wireless in-flight entertainment portal, HELLO 6E, is available through the IndiGo mobile app. IndiGo hopes it will improve the customer experience for digital-savvy passengers on its flights.

Two content partners, Mumbai-based Shemaroo Contentino and California-based West Entertainment, enable AirFi’s solution’s streaming entertainment component. This will provide access to a library of 200 hours of Indian and Hollywood movies, TV shows, music, and games.

The platform will be customised with many new features unique to IndiGo, including two new airline-branded games provided in conjunction with Gladi8or, a Dublin-based games developer.

Passengers will also have access to AirFi’s 3D moving map product, which uses the aircraft’s ADS-B receiver to monitor the flight’s route in real-time and provide accurate location, speed and altitude information at any given point during the journey. The map allows passengers to zoom in and out to get a closer look at geographical features, while providing points of interest around the origin and destination of flights. Passengers will be able to take part in a treasure hunt integrated into the moving map.

All of this is powered by a small box placed in the cabin.

Bottomline

IndiGo is currently trialling streaming entertainment on board on the Delhi—Goa Route, using the services of AirFi. The airline and the IFE provider are offering a moving map, 200 hours of content, and a couple of airline-branded games during this trial. This is the first installation of AirFi Box in India.

Has anyone tried the AirFi/IndiGo IFE solution and has an experience to share?
