Air India recently inducted the first of its six Boeing 777-300ERs earlier in service with Etihad Airways. The airline has, so far, inducted five ex-Delta 777-200LRs, and one 777-300ER and awaits five more 777-300ERs (ex-Etihad) and three 777-300ERs (ex-Singapore Airlines).
Air India to up gauge Delhi – London Heathrow to 777
Air India used to operate the Boeing 777-300s to London Heathrow pre-pandemic. However, once the pandemic subsided, Air India chose to go with the Boeing 787-8s on its flights from Delhi to London Heathrow (three on some days, two on most). They are now changing this in favour of the Boeing 777 again.
Air India will operate its Boeing 77W on AI 111/112 rotation, effective September 1, 2023. The airline has updated the reservation system accordingly. The seat map on this flight reflects the Business Class configuration of Etihad’s 77W.
Etihad’s 77W is configured for 8 First Class suites, 40-flat bed Business Class seats and 282 Economy Class seats, a jump of 29% seats and 166% premium cabin capacity in the sector (which is always in demand). The First Class seats have not yet been put up for sale, perhaps so that Air India can swap the place in case of lighter loads, and the 787s do not have First Class.
Bottomline
Air India will put its first Boeing 777-300ER (ex-Etihad) to work on the Delhi – London Heathrow and back sectors effective September 1, 2023. This aircraft has a much higher premium cabin capacity and more seats overall, so it will help Air India bring around more passengers to and fro from Delhi on a daily basis.
What do you think of the upgauged Air India service to LHR? Do you think it will perform well?

Flew on 777 300er from london to delhi last week. Ex etihad. Absolutely aweful state. Planes are atleast 15 years old. Most ife not working in economy seats damaged. Tray tables barely holding on. Smaller seats that dreamliner.
