Air India has spent the past two years reinventing itself. Now, they have launched one more initiative via their ground handling partner, AISATS, a 50:50 partnership between Air India and SATS Airport Services. This is not something that hasn’t been done before, but it is back after a long time.
AI SATS inducts luxury coaches.
Airlines around the globe use premium cars and coaches for tarmac transfers of their premium passengers. For instance, Lufthansa and Swiss use limousines for their First Class passengers to be transferred to/from the aircraft at Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, and Vienna when the flight is at a non-contact gate.
Qatar Airways uses dedicated buses for first-class and business-class passengers, with a hefty sprinkling of luxe. They now have ground transport coaches for business class and first class that are separately marked, although I have to admit, I don’t know if there is a difference on the inside.
In India, Kingfisher Airlines used to have special coaches for Premium customers. Air India SATS Airport Services has inducted luxury tarmac coaches exclusively for first-class and business-class travellers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The company has introduced three such coaches at Delhi airport for Air India flights and will extend this service to other airlines in the near future.
AISATS luxury coaches have premium amenities like plush seating, ample legroom, air conditioning comfort, and seamless transport between the terminal gate and the aircraft door for premium passengers. Furthermore, they are all-electric vehicles.
Bottomline
Air India SATS has inducted premium coaches to transfer Air India Business and First Class passengers who might not get a contact bridge to the terminal. There are three such coaches at the moment, and AI SATS will eventually offer these to other airlines. These coaches have couches instead of the usual seating for many passengers in one go (sit and stand).
What do you think of the new addition from Air India SATS for premium passengers?

What about BOM? Zero mention. We are the orphan children of DEL these days 🙁
It is the second biggest airport for Air India after DEL one would imagine. Maybe BLR which is becoming AI’s new hub will get it before BOM then BOM will feel like the middle child.
@Rutgers Bach, this is an AI SATS Product. AISATS does not exist at Mumbai Airport for Ground Handling, so this isn’t coming to BOM. I don’t remember who does ground handling for AI in BLR, so I won’t comment on the BLR part just yet.
Even Emirates and flyDubai have separate buses in Dubai airport
And they have had it for more than 10 years… i remember the special first and business class bus used by Emirates in 2011.
i love travelling
