Air India offering double points on Business Class flights through May 2024

Air India recently launched a new version of their loyalty programme, Flying Returns. Now, the airline is out and about trying to promote the benefits of the new loyalty programme, and their first move is this latest promotion.

Air India is offering double points on business class travel through May 2024

Today, Air India has launched a new promotion where those who book and fly in Air India’s Business Class cabin (domestic) during the period of April 15 to May 31, 2024, will receive double Flying Returns points.

The booking period for this promotion is between April 15, 2024, 0000 hours and May 15, 2024, 2359 hours, so if there is a prior booking, it does not count for the promotion. Also, the promotion is only for passengers booking into business class directly and not upgrading their cabin to Business Class via vouchers or cash upgrades later. You can book tickets on AirIndia.com, the app, or other channels such as MakeMyTrip.com.

Also, the airline will double all your redeemable miles, not just the base of 6 FRP/INR 100 spent. So, if you are Platinum with Air India, you get 22 FRP/INR 100 spent.

Is this a good promotion?

From Air India standards, this is a generous promotion. Let’s take the example of a DEL-BOM Business Class flight a week from now, which is going at INR 27,500 for now. At the minimum, you make 1,425 FR Points on this trip. With the double points promotion, you make 2,850 points, excluding any bonuses for your Air India Flying Returns tier. That means, now, for two trips or one round trip, you would get enough miles to encash an economy-class ticket in Air India on the same route (3 months out), which is worth INR 5,000. You can, of course, use the miles in other ways you deem appropriate.

For Gold Tier Members such as myself, this would earn 4,750 FR Points, which means I’m almost home for an economy ticket with my business class ticket. Crediting the same ticket to United MileagePlus, a good Star Alliance-wide loyalty programme, will get you about 1000 MP miles. Hardly moves the needle.

Bottomline

Air India Flying Returns has launched a new promotion. Those booking domestic business class on the airline and crediting their tickets on Air India FR will get double points for tickets booked between April 15 and May 15, 2024, and travel by May 31, 2024.
