Air India Award Seats at 25% off for travel till May 31, 2014

Update: It is now official and Air India has put out a promotion page as well.

Air India seems to be on a roll these days with its frequent flyer program. I am guessing while I had a view that they are the most miser program out there, someone is working to change my view a bit. They still don’t provide 100% flown miles like Jet Airways does, but they have created new opportunities to earn miles such as the SBI Air India Credit Card, which can let you earn miles at about 8 INR spend per mile earned if you go for the top end variant.

Now, a new unannounced mileage seat sale has come into play from today onwards. I see all seats on redemption available for 25% off for travel till May 31, 2014. This includes the domestic as well as international awards. What does that mean? You have Mumbai – Delhi flights going for 7125 miles in economy, and Mumbai – London flights going for 37,500 miles one-way Business Class on the 787 Dreamliner. Not just that, I looked for and found a Mumbai – Seoul routing (via Delhi and Hong Kong) for 28500 miles one way in Business Class, with as many as 8 seats open. That is 13.5 hours of Business Class and Business Class transit time on one A321 and one B787 seat.

There is also Air India First Class available at 25% off, and you can have a First Class Seat between Delhi & London for 46,875 miles and some taxes. Air India does not charge fuel surcharge on most tickets so taxes are minimal as well.

Like you’d know, Air India is transfer partners with Citibank PremierMiles and American Express Membership Rewards (India). You can also earn miles with the Air India SBI co-branded cards. However, MR will devalue w.r.t. Air India miles from May 10, 2014.

On the other hand, Jet Airways recently discontinued their 20% off domestic and 25% off regional sector redemptions.
