I’d heard about this piece of news last month and then it even turned up in the press, but I am still surprised that Shangri La, who was operating a property on top of the luxurious Palladium mall in Mumbai, has moved out of the management contract only 9 months after getting the property up and running. The website of the Shangri La hotel had this notice a few days ago:
As of September 2013, Shangri-La hotels and Resorts will no longer manage Shangri-La Hotel Mumbai
And as of this morning, the hotel was gone from the Shangri-La website.
And last night, while driving by, I did notice that the hotel had renamed itself to the Palladium hotel.
The hotel states they’ve already found a new management co who will take over by the end of this year, but what is amusing is, there is no website at the moment to directly book with the hotel if you wanted to do so…
Anybody have any insight into why did Shangri La walk out of a project where they were initially planning to stay for 20 years?

Staff working in the mall said the hotel used to be super-empty – occupancy was terrible apparently.
