Yesterday, an unnamed report from The Times of India, Nagpur, bearing no byline, came to the fore, which said that the Indian aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, has firmed up rules that will disallow making reels or other phone camera content inside the airport premises in India from here on.

The article clearly misses the point of the headline, which states that DGCA does not allow photos/videos at security checkpoints, in restricted zones, or on the apron. In reality, the civil part of the Airport was always out of the purview of the photography/videography rule. Additionally, Arindam Majumder, one of the best aviation reporters in India, agrees that there is no such indication, and the DGCA’s own website and X account do not contain any such information.

So, in summary, nothing has changed for the time being at airports across India. You cannot make pictures at Defence airports such as Gorakhpur, Goa Dabolim and others, but you can continue to make pictures, for instance, of your lounge trips in Delhi or Mumbai, and there is no risk of getting on a no-fly list for that.
Bottomline
There was an article in TOI claiming there is a ban on photography and video at airports across the country. There are some limitations, though, but most stuff won’t get your flying privileges stopped, not yet at least.
What do you think of the new unconfirmed reports around a ban coming on photos across airports?
