SWISS to launch Bengaluru flights, adding a new nonstop link to Zurich

India’s international aviation map is getting another high-profile addition. SWISS International Air Lines has announced that it will launch flights to Bengaluru, marking the airline’s first-ever service to the city and its third destination in India after Delhi and Mumbai.

SWISS to launch flights between Zurich and Bengaluru

The new route will connect Zurich and Bengaluru five times a week as part of the airline’s Winter 2026/27 schedule expansion. The move is significant not just because it expands SWISS’s footprint in India, but also because it reflects the growing demand for premium travel between Bengaluru and Europe.

For Bengaluru, this is yet another boost to its long-haul connectivity ambitions. Over the years, the city has steadily transformed into one of India’s most important international gateways, thanks to the presence of global technology firms, startup ecosystems, research institutions and multinational corporations. Kempegowda International Airport has aggressively pursued international expansion and has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing airports for long-haul traffic.

The addition of SWISS also further strengthens the Lufthansa Group’s India strategy. The group already has a strong presence in India through Lufthansa, and Bengaluru itself has long been an important market for Lufthansa’s German operations. With SWISS now entering the city, travellers from South India will have another premium one-stop option to Europe and North America via Zurich.

The new eastbound LX 140 service will depart from Zurich daily (except Mondays and Wednesdays) at 13:20 and arrive in Bengaluru some nine hours later at 02:55 the following day. The westbound LX 141 service will leave Bengaluru daily (except Tuesdays and Thursdays) at 04:50 and arrive in Zurich at 10:50 the same day.

The airline has not yet specified which aircraft type will operate the Bengaluru route, although SWISS has loaded the flight on the GDS. It is the A330-300, which the airline has been using on other Indian routes.

This new service also comes at a time when competition among European carriers for traffic to India is intensifying. Air India is rapidly expanding its European network, while carriers such as Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic continue to strengthen their operations in India. Bengaluru, in particular, has become increasingly attractive because of its mix of corporate traffic, premium leisure travellers, and high-yield demand in the technology sector.

Another important aspect is Star Alliance connectivity. Since both Air India and SWISS are members of Star Alliance, the new flights should enable stronger codeshare and frequent-flyer integration opportunities. This could especially benefit travellers originating from smaller Indian cities who connect into Bengaluru via Air India’s domestic network before continuing onwards to Europe.

While India has long been a key Asian market for European airlines, Bengaluru represents a newer generation of demand driven not just by traditional business travel but also by startups, venture capital, technology partnerships, research collaborations, and premium outbound tourism. Switzerland itself has cultivated deeper economic and innovation ties with Bengaluru over the years, including through initiatives such as Swissnex in India.

Bottomline

SWISS, the Switzerland-based carrier which is a part of the Lufthansa Group, has announced a new flight between Bengaluru and Zurich. The airline will launch the flight on Sunday, October 26, 2026 ex Zurich and will launch the flight ex-Bengaluru on October 27, 2026. The flight will be operated with an Airbus 330-300.

  1. Cool, but I hope they can deploy their retrofitted A330s (along with the metal plates) soon after.
