IndiGo announces flights between Delhi and London Heathrow
After the launch of direct flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Europe’s largest aviation hub and the world’s most connected airport, IndiGo has announced flights between Delhi and London Heathrow, effective February 2, 2026. The airline will fly five times a week on the route using its Boeing 787-9 aircraft, taken on wet/damp lease from Norse Atlantic Airways, offering a dual-class configuration with IndiGoStretch and Economy Class. IndiGo already operates daily, direct flights between Mumbai and London Heathrow, and will now operate a total of 12 weekly flights to London.
The introduction of this new route marks a steady expansion of international connectivity from the National Capital, Delhi, after IndiGo’s recently launched flights to Denpasar (Bali), Krabi, Hanoi, Guangzhou, and Manchester. IndiGo has already announced the introduction of direct flights to Athens starting January 2026. Along with the international expansion from Delhi, IndiGo has added 10 new international destinations and more than 30 new international routes from various points in India over the past 12 months.
The flights will be operated daily using IndiGo’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which has been taken on a wet/damp lease from Norse Atlantic Airways. The aircraft features a dual-class configuration, including Economy Class and IndiGo’s tailor-made business product, IndiGoStretch. IndiGo will offer complimentary hot meals and beverages inspired by local and global flavours to all customers on this route. Additionally, alcoholic drinks can be purchased by customers in the Economy cabin and will be offered complimentary to IndiGoStretch customers. All seats feature seatback screens for in-flight entertainment with nearly 300 hours of engaging content. Bookings are now open across all platforms, including www.goIndiGo.in, the mobile app, and authorised travel partners.

Do you know how many more 787s they have on damp lease and how many additional routes they could launch with them?
Also could they use the upcoming A321XLR for European routes instead of widebodies? Are there any West European destinations within the range of the XLRs?
@Anumit, the contract is for 6 787-9s that the airline will wet lease from Norse Atlantic. So this launch will be the last unless IndiGo gets more of these 787-9s. The A321XLR is intended for smaller routes (such as Greece), where you don’t expect as many passengers as on trunk routes like London. IndiGo has already announced Athens with its first XLR which will be launched in January 2026.
This is such great news for travelers! Direct flights between Delhi and London Heathrow will make planning trips so much easier. Looking forward to seeing how IndiGo’s new service shakes up travel between India and the UK.
