Virgin Atlantic, the second airline flying around the United Kingdom, is now offering a great opportunity to status match and receive a complimentary upgrade to their Silver and Gold Tier and a chance to win 1 million points on the airline.

Virgin’s Points “Million Air” Status Match offer

In light of the solid devaluation of British Airways Executive Club, which will begin in April 2025, Virgin Atlantic has announced a status match campaign. Five successful matches will also be offered a million Virgin Points in a lucky draw.

Customers who apply for and are status-matched to Virgin Atlantic’s Silver or Gold tier between January 15 and February 14, 2025, will be entered into a prize draw to win 1 million points. While the Status Match is offered to customers worldwide, the reward points lucky draw is only for UK-based customers.

Virgin Atlantic’s status match programme will allow customers in the top tier of 11 airlines to receive Gold status on Virgin Atlantic, which is SkyTeam Elite Plus on the network. Similarly, Silver Tier members of other airlines will be matched to the Silver Tier on Virgin Atlantic (recognised as SkyTeam Elite Members).

To become Flying Club Gold, applicants must provide a future revenue or redemption flight with Virgin Atlantic or one of their codeshare partners in either Premium or Upper Class. Those applying to Silver Tier Match must provide a future revenue or redemption flight with Virgin Atlantic or one of their codeshare partners in any cabin.

To avail of the Status Match, the passengers applying should not have held Flying Club status in the last five years using a status match. This offer is also not available to Flying Club members who hold any membership level with another SkyTeam partner airline.

This is not a blind status match but a contingent one. Your status will only be upgraded three days before the flight’s departure, and it will be valid for 12 months after that. Suppose you think you can cancel the ticket after getting the status in. In that case, Virgin Atlantic will cancel your upgraded status, downgrade you to Red Tier, and ban you from participating in any future Status Matches.

Of course, if this is not what works for you, you can always go for a paid status match with Air France / KLM Flying Blue, which is matching up to Platinum Tier at the moment without the requirement to have a flight in to start you up on the status.

Virgin Atlantic, as usual, is taking on British Airways (and other airlines in markets where VS operates) in a cheeky manner and offering a status match to those who might fly the airline at least once. In this manner, Virgin Atlantic is not handing out status to abusers or collectors of status, but rather getting some real or points money out of them to examine their seriousness. The list of airlines is widespread, and there is also a significant 5 million points prize pool for those in the UK. The opportunity is valid till February 14, 2025.
