Star Air is an Indian carrier that started operations in 2019 and exclusively operates a fleet of Embraer E145 and E175 jets. The airline operates on niche routes, connecting the underserved tier 2 and tier 3 towns amongst themselves and to major metros. The airline thrives on serving UDAN routes and generally is not visible at significant metro airports, except at Bengaluru, where the airline has a hub. The airline currently serves 22 destinations across India and is growing fast.
Star Air plans massive fleet expansion.
Star Air has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan targeting a 25 aircraft fleet over the next 36 months. As part of this plan, Star Air will induct two new E175 aircraft in the current fiscal year (ending March 2025), with an additional four scheduled for FY26 (April 2025 to March 2026). As mentioned earlier, the airline currently operates a fleet of 9 aircraft – 4 Embraer E175s and 5 Embraer E145s. The airline did not comment on the remaining ten aircraft it intends to add in FY27 to its fleet.

The addition of these new Embraer E175 aircraft marks a pivotal step in our journey. As we expand our fleet to 25 aircraft, we reaffirm our commitment to reaching more underserved markets and setting new standards in air travel. Each milestone in this expansion brings us closer to connecting more of Real India, offering fast, efficient, and high-quality flying experiences for our passengers.
Since its inception in 2019, Star Air has successfully flown over 1.3 million passengers across 22 Destinations, creating air travel options across states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Bottomline
Star Air intends to almost triple its fleet in the coming three years, announcing plans to induct 16 aircraft in its fleet over this period. The airline plans to add six aircraft over the coming 18 months or so, leaving out the details for the aircraft induction in the months after.
