Emirates has been working on a retrofit programme for its Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft fleets. The retrofit exercise will introduce a premium economy product and a 1-2-1 Business Class product on Emirates’ 777 aircraft. While some of the retrofit 777s are flying into Europe for now, Emirates has now announced switching all their 777 operations to the USA on the new(er) product in the coming six months.

Emirates announces upgrade of US flights to retrofit 777s

Emirates recently started a project to upgrade 81 of their Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. They will add premium economy and replace the business class on board with a 1-2-1 configured business class cabin. The 777 is the backbone of the Emirates fleet, going places where the A380 can’t or isn’t certified to land for now. The airline has had to work on the 777 retrofits, given that they cannot get their 777-9 aircraft in time, which has been delayed about five years for entry-in-service.

As per new updates from Emirates, the updated Boeing 777 aircraft will fly to the following gateway cities in the United States:

• Chicago: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777 three times weekly on EK 235/EK236 starting November 1, 2024, and will increase it to daily from November 22, 2024.
• Boston: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777 three times weekly on EK 237/EK238 starting December 10, 2024, and will increase it to daily from December 18, 2024.
• Dallas Fort Worth: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777 three times weekly on EK 221/EK222 starting January 9, 2025, and will increase it to daily from January 15, 2025.
• Seattle: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777 on EK 229/EK230 starting January 24, 2025.
• Newark/Athens: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777 for daily service on EK 209/EK210 starting February 10, 2025.
• Miami/Bogotá: Emirates will introduce its retrofitted Boeing 777  on four weekly flights on EK 213/EK214 starting February 19, 2025, and will increase it to daily from March 1, 2025.

This is excellent news for those who use Emirates to fly to and from the US because this move upgrades the Emirates product to the current standard across most US stations. Emirates, for reasons of demand, flies the Boeing 777 to most of their US stations, and this move upgrades the experience for their Emirates customers in one go.

With the deployment of its newly retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft, flights to and from ten of the 12 gateways in Emirates’ US network will feature Premium Economy by February 2025.  Emirates Premium Economy seats will now be available on a mix of Boeing 777 and A380 aircraft, operating to 12 gateways in Emirates’ 19-point network in the Americas.

All Business Class seats on the newly refurbished Boeing 777 focus on personalised privacy and elevated comfort, converting to a comfortable flat bed, with 20.7-inch wide seats pitched up to 44 inches apart. The staggered seating arrangement will ensure aisle access for every seat, with direct entry and exit for customers.

Emirates has revealed plans to fly its retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft to the United States. As part of the rollout, the airline will move six stations within six months to the retrofit aircraft, which will have a 1-2-1 business class and a premium economy cabin.
