Vistara to operate last flight on 11.11.2024; to merge with Air India on November 12, 2024

Vistara, India’s last full-service carrier to launch operations and in line to merge with Air India, will see their operations merge into Air India on November 12, 2024. Here are all the details you need to know about this merger.

Vistara to merge into Air India on November 12, 2024.

Vistara will merge into Air India, effective November 12, 2024. That means the airline will operate its last flight on November 11, 2024, before the UK call sign transitions to the AI call sign for good. Earlier this morning, we wrote about the final approvals coming through, which will permit Singapore Airlines to join the merged entity of the two airlines.

Starting September 3, 2024, customers will gradually no longer be able to make bookings with Vistara for travel on or after November 12, 2024. All Vistara aircraft thereafter will be operated by Air India, and bookings for the routes operated by these aircraft will be redirected to Air India’s website. Vistara will continue to take bookings and operate flights as usual until November 11, 2024.

On this occasion, Vinod Kannan, Chief Executive Officer, Vistara, said,

We are immensely grateful to all our customers for their support and patronage over the last 10 years. As we progress further in our growth journey, we want to emphasize that this merger is about offering them more choice with a larger fleet and a wider network, while elevating the overall travel experience. Vistara and Air India are committed to ensuring that this transition is smooth and hassle-free. We are excited about this new phase in our journey and look forward to welcoming our customers again soon – as Air India.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, said,

Cross-functional teams from Air India and Vistara have been working together for many months to make the transition of aircraft, flying crew, ground-based colleagues and, most importantly, our valued customers, into the new Air India as seamless as possible.  The joint team looks forward to offering our guests an expanded network, additional flight options, an enhanced frequent flyer program and the best of both antecedent airlines and are grateful for the support of our loyal customers through this next phase of building a world class, world scale, global airline with an Indian heart.

What do you do if you are a Vistara customer booked for travel?

An exhaustive list of FAQs is published on the Vistara website. One of the key messages I get looking at these is that if you paid for any service, such as an extra allowance, lounge access or preferred seats, these won’t be carried over to the new airline, and Vistara will refund you for the excess amount charged. If you paid for a seat allocation, this will transition to Air India and be made available complimentary.

If your travel is until November 11,2024, your PNR number and e-ticket will remain the same, and you can modify it through the Vistara website or mobile app if you wish to. However, if you travel from November 12, 2024 onwards, your flight will be operated by Air India. You will receive an Air India ticket with a new E-ticket Number. However, the PNR will remain the same as before.  On the day of your journey, you can proceed to the Air India counter at the airport with the new Air India ticket for your journey.

Bottomline

Vistara is all set to merge into Air India on November 12, 2024. The last flight for Vistara will be operated on November 11, 2024. While more details are awaited on the merger, here is hoping this is a smooth merger and the combined airline comes out as a formidable challenger in Indian aviation.

  1. Sad to see Vistara disappear. AI still has lot of catching up to do.

Domestic Y redemption on AI is 8-9K minimum whereas on UK it’s mostly 5K. Massive devaluation on the way unless AI adopts UK redemption charts.

  2. Hey Ajay – any idea, which will be the last flight on Nov 12. Would love to book myself on it (missed 9W last flight so don’t want to miss this chance, although the context is very different)

  3. I have a vistara PEconomy booking for December – will that class of servic be honored or will be downgraded to Eco on an AI aircraft

    • @Bharat Sant Kumar, it isn’t like your flight will change. Just the number will change. So from UKxxx it will become AIxxx, the fleet remains the same for now.

  4. Have couple of booking with Vistara planned so just to confirm Ajay,
So post 3 September the Points requirement for Vistara flights will be as per AI’s points table?

    • @Aakash, we find on the third. They have talked about the transition of existing bookings. No one said anything about Club Vistara at the moment.
