Air India recently inducted the first of its six Boeing 777-300ERs earlier in service with Etihad Airways. The airline has, so far, inducted five ex-Delta 777-200LRs and one 777-300ER and awaits five more 777-300ERs (ex-Etihad) and three 777-300ERs (ex-Singapore Airlines).

Air India to switch the Mumbai – Newark to (ex) Etihad 777

Air India operates their (own) Boeing 777-300s to Newark at the moment. However, with the induction of (more of) the new(er) 777s from Etihad, the airline will switch up the Boeing 77W that operates the thrice weekly flight between Mumbai and Newark to the new variant. The first one is being used off and on to operate Delhi – London Heathrow operations for now.

Air India will operate its Boeing 77W on AI 191/144 rotation, effective November 29, 2023. The airline has updated the reservation system accordingly. The seat map on this flight reflects the Business Class configuration of Etihad’s 77W.

Etihad’s 77W is configured for 8 First Class suites, 40-flat bed Business Class seats and 282 Economy Class seats. The First Class and Premium Economy seats have not yet been put up for sale. We recently flew the new variant of the Boeing 777 on Air India’s fleet, and here is the full review, albeit on a domestic flight.

Bottomline

Air India will put its second Boeing 777-300ER (ex-Etihad) to work on the Mumbai – Newark and back sectors effective November 29, 2023. This aircraft has a higher premium cabin capacity, so it will help Air India bring more passengers to and fro from Mumbai daily.

What do you think of the Air India service to EWR with the (ex) Etihad 777?
