Qatar Airways has just announced a new conversion bonus which could be potentially profitable if you look at flying Qatar Airways or otherwise engage with the Avios currency via the sister programme British Airways Executive Club. The airline is offering a 30% conversion bonus for many banks across the globe.
Qatar Airways 30% More Transfer Bonus
Between June 1 and 30, 2023, Qatar Airways is offering a straight 30% Bonus when you convert your credit card reward points from various banking partners into Qatar Airways Avios. The minimum conversion of base Avios in one single transaction needs to be 1,000 or above to be eligible to earn the 30% bonus Avios.
The banks that are eligible for the Avios conversion offer include:
- Ahli Bank (Qatar)
- Ahli United Bank
- ahlibank Oman
- Air Miles
- American Express (France & India)
- Banque Saudi Fransi
- BNZ
- Cathay United Bank
- CBQ
- CIMB
- Citibank
- Commonwealth Bank
- CTBC Bank
- Doha Bank
- Dukhan Bank
- Emirates Islamic
- Hana Bank
- HSBC (Hong Kong, Mexico, Taiwan, USA)
- Hyundai Card
- Kasikorn Bank
- Kuwait Finance House
- Mashreq
- Masraf Al Rayan
- Ping An E-wallet
- QIB
- QIIB
- QNB
- Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore)
From an Indian perspective, then, if you were an existing Citi customer holding the Prestige or PremierMiles cards, or an American Express Cards customer, you will be able to convert your reward points to Avios in your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account and get a 30% Bonus. The conversion is at the following ratio:
- Citi Premiermiles: 2 PremierMiles: 1 Avios
- Citi Prestige: 1 Prestige Point: 4 Avios
- Amex Membership Rewards: 2 MR: 1 Avios
[As per an email received by members, Axis Bank is also an eligible participant. However, we do not have formal confirmation of this yet]
Since this is a bonus being offered by Qatar Airways Privilege Club, the airline will credit the bonus miles, and they will do so by August 15, 2023 (45 days after the campaign end date). The bonus Avios will be calculated per transaction, and not on the cumulative sum of base Avios converted from Rewards Points during the Campaign Period.
Ten members will get a bonus of 100K Avios
Qatar Airways is also offering ten members a bonus of 100,000 Avios during the conversion campaign. The ten members with the highest conversion value of base Avios during the campaign period will receive a bonus of 100,000 Avios on top of the 30% bonus Avios. Qatar Airways states that members need to sweep in at least 500,000 base Avios with this offer to earn the bonus of 100,000 Avios.
If 500K is the floor to enter this club, and assuming no one converts more than the floor, these 500K conversions will receive a 250K Bonus eventually, which will make it a 50% bonus for them.
Convert Qatar Airways Avios to British Airways Avios
In 2022, Qatar Airways Privilege Club moved to Avios as its rewards currency, apart from offering a 1:1 conversion and free mobility between Avios in your Executive Club and Privilege Club accounts (apart from Iberia Plus and Air Lingus AerClub as well). This means that you can also earn a 30% bonus on conversion for use in BA Executive Club as well later.
Bottomline
Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a 30% bonus on the conversion of select bank points to Avios in its programme. This is a great opportunity to receive an upside on the conversion you might have anyways made, with the further ability to transfer these to BA Executive Club. Additionally, the top 10 convertors will also receive a bonus of 100K Avios from Qatar Airways as well.
