Act Now: IHG One Rewards offering Status Match and Challenge

IHG recently revamped its rewards programme, including changing the name, and made it IHG One Rewards.  The changes are overall positive and add a whole lot of spunk to what was essentially a low utility programme for tier status, while some of the others, such as Marriott and Hyatt, provide a much higher set of benefits against their programmes. Now, IHG is offering a generous status match and challenge for the new programme.

IHG One Rewards has launched a new status challenge programme, which is available to members of all competing programmes. The best part is that you don’t need to have status, but you can instead be just an entry-level member and get the perks here.

The IHG One Rewards Status Challenge offers Platinum Status upfront. It allows you to maintain the status or upgrade your status even further depending on how many nights you stay within 120 days of registration.

  • Stay five nights within 120 days of registration, and you will get to keep your Platinum status through December 2023
  • Stay 15 nights within 120 days of registration, and you will receive Diamond status through December 2023

Currently, registration for this promotion closes on July 31, 2022, and is available across the world, except for members in Greater China. For this offer, a qualifying stay is defined as one booked directly with IHG, where a member is paying cash, and the rate exceeds USD 30 per night.

The IHG One Rewards Status Challenge is available to members of Accor, Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges, Hilton Honors, Marriott Bonvoy, Radisson Rewards, World of Hyatt and Wyndham Rewards.

Should you sign up?

It is incredibly generous of IHG to provide a status which usually requires 40 elite nights or 60,000 qualifying points per year for next to nothing. You earn a 60% points bonus for 120 days, and if you make the five nights, you get to keep it for more than 1.5 years. That is a great move.

IHG Diamond status needs 70 elite nights or 120,000 qualifying points per annum and offers a 100% points bonus. You get to keep it by staying for 15 nights in IHG properties after signing up for the challenge. Diamond status offers improved perks such as breakfast now, which is a real upgrade to the status.

However, a lot of the value from IHG One Rewards is now unlocked via the Milestone Rewards, which are unlocked based on how many nights you complete with IHG. So, many suite upgrades, club access benefits and other associated benefits don’t come with the status challenge. You can read about all the perks here.

Bottomline

IHG One Rewards has launched a status challenge that offers to get you Platinum Status for 120 days just to enrol in the offer. Then, once you complete five nights during the promotion period, you can maintain the status through December 2023. You get Diamond status if you complete 15 nights during the promotion period.

Do you plan on taking advantage of this IHG One Rewards status challenge offer?
