Singapore to drop testing and travel restrictions for vaccinated travellers

Singapore has decided to bring down the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (DORSCON) level from orange to yellow effective April 26, 2022. The country has been at the orange level since February 2020.

As a part of further opening up, then, fully vaccinated travellers coming into Singapore via air or sea will not have to take the pre-departure COVID-19 test for arrivals starting April 26, 2022. The decision to remove the requirement extends to non-fully vaccinated children aged 12 and below. This means if you’re vaccinated, entering Singapore becomes as easy as it was prepandemic. Well, almost. The SafeTravel website of Singapore is updated with the details.

Currently, vaccinated travellers who take the air or sea route are required to take a pre-departure test — a rapid antigen test or a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) — within two days before arriving in Singapore.

There is no relaxation in rules for those who are not fully vaccinated and are aged 13 and above. Thus, they will have to take a pre-departure test within two days before arriving in Singapore. Additionally, they will have to complete a seven-day stay-at-home period and take a PCR test before the end of the period.

Not only are the entry restrictions going to be being eased, but all sorts of guidelines in terms of the number of people in workplaces and group sizes are going away. However, masks on board public transport as well as indoors will be mandatory even now.

Bottomline

As of April 26, 2022, Singapore is dropping all sorts of testing requirements for vaccinated travellers. Not just that, a lot of requirements inside the country are also going away, such as those on workplaces. This is a sharp difference from Hong Kong, which is still struggling with controlling Covid-19, and also, in the process harming its position as an aviation hub as well as a financial hub.

What do you think of Singapore’s reopening and easing of restrictions?

  1. Ajay,
Thanks for sharing all the details, as always.

My daughter is 13+ and not yet vaccinated. I guess we should count Singapore out for one week vacation plan, as one week quarantine is needed! You’ve same view?

    Thanks,
    Rishi
