2021 saw the departure of Alitalia, and the arrival of ITA Airways, which took over the assets of the failing airline and made a fresh start. Apparently, to give the airline a headstart, they went back and joined the SkyTeam alliance, and also offered a very generous status match to other airline’s status holders to attract them to their airline. The status match programme ended on December 31, 2021.
Now, ITA Airways Volare programme has started to roll out virtual membership cards to those who enrolled for the status match, and you should check your email to see if you received yours. For instance, I got mine 8 hours ago.
The card includes a validity date and also a membership number, which was not issued during the past couple of months while ITA Airways was still setting up the systems for their loyalty programme. Since I got matched to Elite Plus, I will have access along with a +1 to all SkyTeam member lounges around the globe when flying a SkyTeam member airline.
In case you have not received an email, you can also log into your account on their website and check for your card and membership number.
The ITA Airways programme is still working on IT capabilities, so the airline website states:
For each euro spent in purchasing your flights you will earn points that will be credited to you by 28 February 2022 to obtain advantages and benefits starting from 1 March 2022.
In addition, based on the points earned, you will be able to access one of our four Volare exclusive clubs: Executive, Premium, Plus and Smart which, starting from 28 February 2022, will give you the right to exclusive benefits and services.
The Volare program will enter its phase 2 by next 28 February. From that moment, you will be able to view the detail of the points you earned in your personal area.
Have you received your new membership card from Volare?

I don’t think you will have access to all Skyteam lounges, since on ITA’s website there’s a list of lounges where you have access to (and that list is quite small…):
https://www.itaspa.com/en_it/fly-ita/airports/lounges.html
@alessandro, those are lounges for when you fly on a ITA Airways flight in the list you posted.
What are the benefits of ITA Executive when flying on DL US only flights? DL customer service was unable to answer the question. The first agent asked “What is ITA?”. The second agent asked if I worked for ITA. The third agent told me to ask ITA what the benefits on DL are.
Does anybody know? For example, do we get Comfort+? Upgrades? Free bags?
@Deltahater, I’d believe you will get the benefits listed on the SkyTeam Alliance website: https://www.skyteam.com/en/frequent-flyers
Yes, received the email overnight and got my oneworld emerald status matched to skyteam elite plus (Volare executive). Have a few Delta domestic US trips planned in the summer so will be interesting to see how that goes.
Which I doubt will go very well since I believe lounge access is only for international flights
@Kunal, Delta on Delta status would give you access only on international (else you need Delta Lounge membership). Delta on international status will give you access since they send the bill to the other party
Got it – volare executive cannot be used for delta domestic lounge access – is what I meant to say
