British Airways introduced the new Club Suite on their Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in 2019 and offered on the Boeing 787-10 aircraft. British Airways started a retrofit on the Boeing 777 aircraft, and eventually, all the Boeing 787s and Boeing 777s are planned for an upgrade from the Club World cabin to the Club Suite. This project might have gotten sidetracked during the pandemic, but now it is back on track.
British Airways Club Suites
The airline’s Club Suite was first rolled out in July 2019 on the first A350 and since then has been installed on the Boeing 787-10 aircraft. The seat offers direct-aisle access, a suite door for greater privacy and luxurious flat-bed seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. They are boasting 40 per cent more storage, including a vanity unit and mirror, WiFi, an 18.5-inch inflight entertainment screens, high definition gate-to-gate programming and PC / USB power.
I managed to fly the product in February 2020 thrice, and it was a welcome change from the old Club World product. Now, the following long-haul aircraft have been fitted with the Club Suite, as per HeadForPoints:
- 8 A350Ks
- 2 787-10s
- 20 777-200s
- 5 777-300
British Airways to retrofit all 777s with Club Suites by 2022
British Airways has now announced that all the Heathrow-based BA 777s will be retrofitted with the new Club Suites product by the end of 2022. British Airways has 59 777s in the fleet, including 43 Boeing 772s and 16 Boeing 77Ws, which will lose their eight abreast Club World to get a 1-2-1 seat, which also features a door for privacy.
Not just that, British Airways has confirmed that here on, all flights between London Heathrow and New York will feature the new Club Suites.
This is an interesting update, because the airline is focused on the 777s based at LHR and there are more of those at London Gatwick as well, perhaps focussed on the holiday market though.
Bottomline
British Airways is moving forward with upgrading their fleet to the newer Club Suites, which will mean a lot more comfort and a better passenger experience for the customers of British Airways Business Class. Not just that, the airline has committed to a full Club Suite experience on the New York – London market.
What do you think of the BA Club Suites rollout on the 777?
