While India had been working to ease the requirements for international travel and will also be issuing tourist visas again soon, they had not taken kindly to the UK’s announcement that Indians travelling to the United Kingdom will be required to go through a 10-day quarantine with the option to test-to-release on day five.
As a quid-pro-quo measure, India imposed a quarantine requirement for UK passport holders arriving in India, even if fully vaccinated. The UK subsequently, removed Indian passport holders (fully vaccinated with the Covishield vaccine) from the quarantine requirement.
As a result, the Indian Government has also now withdrawn their requirement for UK passport holders arriving in India, to quarantine as long as they are fully vaccinated. Here is the new notification issued by the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare, Government of India.
As India prepares to start issuing Tourist Visas again, this is excellent news for the UK nationals arriving in India, since, hereon, they will only need to get an RT-PCR test done pre-departure. If negative, they can get on a plane and arrive in India (to be followed by a second RT-PCR test on arrival). They will have to undergo a home quarantine on arrival, however, as per the earlier guidelines.
Bottomline
India has discontinued the new requirement imposed on the UK passport holders to quarantine in India for ten days on arrival, regardless of their vaccination status, with immediate effect.
Does this news make life easy for anyone arriving in India? Hope so.
