One of the most popular destinations for those who travel to the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi has decided to change the Abu Dhabi Quarantine Rules for visitors to the emirate. These will be valid for those who have been fully vaccinated from September 5, 2021, onwards.

Abu Dhabi Quarantine Rules removed for fully vaccinated arrivals

In an attempt to keep up with the opening of the other Emirates, Abu Dhabi has today notified significant relaxation in the Abu Dhabi Quarantine rules from September 5, 2021, onwards. The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office took to Twitter to inform the new rules:

While Abu Dhabi will remove the strict 10-day quarantine requirement, frequent RT-PCR testing will remain the norm. Here is the new procedure, explained by the Abu Dhabi Media Office:

Before travelling, vaccinated tourists must verify their vaccination certificate via the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) website or app. Before boarding, they need to present a negative PCR test result received within 48 hours of departure.

Vaccinated tourists arriving from green list destinations must take a PCR test on arrival, and another on day 6, if staying in the emirate. When arriving from other destinations they must take a PCR test on arrival, and further tests on day 4 and day 8, if staying in the emirate.

The protocol applies to fully vaccinated tourists who have received a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization and who are aged 16 years and above.

Vaccinated tourists will be allowed in public places limited to those vaccinated in Abu Dhabi per the approved process. They will be able to show their status through two ways: (1) register on Alhosn app to show their vaccination status and the results of tests done within the UAE, or (2) use the official app of their country of residence to show proof of vaccination and their phone to show test results.

Unvaccinated travellers, including those exempt from vaccination, arriving in Abu Dhabi from green list destinations will be required to take a PCR test on arrival, without quarantine, and take PCR tests on days six and nine.

Since the requirement is of any WHO-approved vaccine, Covishield will be counted from India, and Covaxin won’t be.

When arriving from the non-green list countries, unvaccinated travellers must take a PCR test on arrival, quarantine for ten days and take another PCR test on day nine. You can refer to the latest Green List here. India is not included as of September 1, 2021, in the Green list.

Abu Dhabi has still not re-opened the facility of Visa on Arrival, so a visa might be needed to be applied ahead of your visit.

With the Visa for UAE opening up, Abu Dhabi has significantly relaxed its rules for travel to the Emirate, which should benefit anyone planning a trip there as a fully vaccinated traveller.
