American Express to send gift vouchers for Platinum Cardmembers for their birthday

American Express continues to amaze me. In India, they are down, but not out. The outfit is currently serving time out due to an RBI ban which disallows them for taking on new customers. But honestly, they have been doing way more for their current cardmembers during the past year or so with all the great statement credit offers, such as the Platinum one for INR 27,500 valid on daily spends and so on.

American Express Platinum Birthday Vouchers

Anyhow, coming to the more current news. American Express seems to be now systemising a birthday benefit for cardmembers as well. A couple of friends and readers have, for the first time, received an email from American Express, offering them a Taj voucher worth INR 10,000 which is valid for 90 days.

AmexGuy, who is a regular participant in the LFAL community appraised me for the first time about the voucher being sent out to him.

American Express Platinum Birthday

The voucher is being sent a full month in advance of the member’s birthday, allowing them to redeem it for a stay at a Taj Hotel at the Taj, SeleQtions, and Vivanta brands on an eligible rate. The voucher can be redeemed for spends towards room charges, food & beverage, spa and other services and applicable taxes billed to the room bill. You should also note that this is not a transferable voucher, so only members can use the voucher for their own stay experiences.

Interestingly, the T&C for this voucher indicate the proposition was firmed up in March 2021, however, I am only hearing of members who have their birthdays in August 2021 receiving these vouchers now. Of course, this does not beat the fabulous surprise American Express sprung upon us a few years ago.

It is important to note that this might be a targetted offer for high spenders, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t receive a voucher.

Bottomline

American Express is rolling out an INR 10,000 Taj Gift Voucher to members on the occasion of their birthday. The voucher is valid for a stay at any Taj, Vivanta or Seleqtions property, and only valid for 90 days from the date of issue.

I feel this is a fabulous addition to the American Express Platinum Card suite of benefits. What do you make of it? Have you received this benefit from American Express on the occasion of your birthday, as a Centurion or Platinum Cardmember?

  1. Nah. A credit I could actually use would be nice. Lower annual fee, perhaps? Statement credit? Pandemic still around, perhaps hotel credits aren’t the best for people who can’t travel, whether by their own choice or restrictions.
