Emirates Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates, has launched a two-day-only sale to purchase miles, which is arguably their best promotion to date. However, an extended opportunity to buy miles also exists.
Buy Emirates Skywards Miles for INR 1.15 (1.6 US Cents) till May 7, 2021
Through 23:59 GST on May 7, 2021 (1:29 AM IST on May 8, 2021), Emirates is offering a 100% bonus on purchased miles. While the bonuses may be different for some accounts, with at least the ten people I polled, everyone received a 100% bonus invitation, as long as you are buying at least 5,000 miles in one transaction. Emirates usually does not sell miles at such high bonuses, so this looks like the first time they are doing this, even though for a limited window.
You can purchase up to 100K miles in a calendar year, so with the bonus, you get 200K miles if you buy at the top end, each mile at INR 1.15. Skywards Miles can be bought by Skywards Members who have at least one prior earning activity in their Emirates Skywards Account, earned by flying on Emirates or a Partner airline or through a Partner transaction. Purchased points can take up to 48 hours to post to your account. Points.Com processes the purchases.
Why Buy Emirates Miles?
Emirates has recently done some judicious things with their programme, including eliminating carrier-imposed surcharges. On the other hand, they are restricting arrangements with other programmes such as Alaska Airlines and JAL to access their First Class inventory. Emirates is one of the best ways to fly long-haul. Here are some of the routes from India and how much they cost:
- Mumbai/Delhi – New York:
- First Class one-way: 120,000 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip (v/s a usual cash price of INR 500,000 RT)
- Business Class one-way: 80,000 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip
- Bengaluru/Chennai – New York:
- First Class one-way: 127,500 Skywards Miles one-way
- Business Class one-way: 85,000 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip
- Mumbai/Delhi – London:
- First Class one-way: 82,500 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip
- Business Class one-way: 55,000 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip
- Bengaluru/Chennai – London:
- First Class one-way: 97,500 Skywards Miles one-way
- Business Class one-way: 65,000 Skywards Miles one-way on a Round Trip
You can use the Miles Calculator to find out the number of miles needed for any particular route.
From May 8 – 21, get up to a 45% Bonus.
If you don’t purchase by May 7, 2359, GST, you will still be able to get up to 45% bonus Miles by May 21, 2021.
American Express in India is a partner with Emirates Skywards to transfer miles as well, at the rate of 2 MR = 1 Skywards Mile.
I would only buy miles if I wanted to use them for Emirates redemptions in the future, as the partner airlines redemptions are not so great.
Bottomline
Emirates is selling points at their lowest price ever under a flash sale, where your price averages out to INR 1.15 when you buy over 5,000 miles. This could make the price of premium cabin redemptions go down by half, potentially. However, buy only if you intend to redeem for Emirates redemptions, not a partner airline.
Who plans to buy Emirates Skywards miles for their next Emirates redemption?

Ajay, is there any way to redeem the soon to be expiring emirates miles from India? No plans of traveling international flights before the expiration, so how to make use of the expiring miles.
How can I recover my Skywards member
