Qatar Airways Status Extension 2021

As per a new announcement made by Qatar Airways, all Silver, Gold and Platinum elite members of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club loyalty programme will find their benefits extended till December 31, 2021. The airline had earlier extended the status of their elite members for a year in early 2020, to lapse in 2021 sometime.

Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Thierry Antinori, said,

Our Privilege Club members are very important to us and we want to continue to be there for them. We understand that some of our members may need more time to plan and book their upcoming travel. That is why we are announcing today our latest tier extension as one of the many steps that Privilege Club has taken over the last year to honour the loyalty of our valued members as we navigate these difficult times together.

The Qatar Airways status extension should also be valid for those who had their status match with Qatar Airways in 2020, as a part of a status match campaign that the airline offered in May 2020, which would have granted status till mid-2021 to the members.

Last year, Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club was one of the first airline loyalty programmes to announce a tier extension offer of up to 12 months to its members. Throughout 2020, Privilege Club continued to invest in redefining the programme, including cutting the number of Qmiles required to book award flights by up to 49 per cent. It also revised its Qmiles policy so that when a member earns or spends them, their balance is valid for 36 months.

Bottomline

Qatar Airways Status Extension has been granted to all elite members who were going to have their status reviewed in 2021, to last till the end of December 2021. This would give the members enough time to enjoy their perks. Perhaps more is in the offing, but for now, Qatar Airways has made a limited increase for the members status. Emirates has done one better, adding a whole year to the members’ status.

What do you think of the Qatar Airways Status Extension through the end of 2021?
