Airlines around the world are selling some of the goods and service items to customers while they are unable to fly. In some cases, with a shrunk network, they own excess inventories, and in some other cases, they are just trying to raise cash. Earlier on this year, Qantas sold many fully loaded up carts to their customers, as they retired their 747s.

Now, British Airways is next in line to put up some items for sale. A British Airways staff member first posted this on Instagram.

As per an internal note, which got out there on the interwebs reads,

“From Monday 23rd November we’re giving customers, colleagues and aviation fans the chance to recreate the First Class experience from their own home as we begin selling a limited number of items that are used in our onboard service.

Although the at-home experience is no match for the real thing, customers or collectors can pick up items such as William Edwards plates, soup bowls, cups, saucers and even a butter dish.”

While British Airways has not officially spoken on the subject, it is clear that British Airways will be trying to liquidate these items from their old First Class experiences as the 747, which had the First Class on all aircraft has been retired. In the new world order, British Airways might not be working with as many First Class items as it needed to work in the past.

What is unclear, however, at the moment is the variety of items that will be put up for sale. Is it only, literally the Family Silver,  or will we expect to see other onboard items such as pyjama kits (I love BA First Pajamas) and so on also being made available. HeadForPoints says that these items are going to be listed on a website WhatABuy.co.uk, but I see a lot of Club World items already on sale there, and hardly any First Class items. From the looks of it, the prices look very reasonable for this sale.

 

I’m unsure at this moment about if BA will be shipping outside of the UK. If you are from India, however, maintain caution before you jump in, as a lawyer friend of ours had to jump hoops to acquire the items he purchased in a Jet Airways auction in Amsterdam a few months ago.

Bottomline

British Airways is disposing off their First Class silverware and perhaps some other associated items, and these are going up on sale today for the general public to pick up. The sale is expected to go live ‘Mid day’, but it seems it is already up and working.
