Qatar Airways launches a loyalty programme just for students

Qatar Airways has launched a global programme exclusive to students worldwide. Student Club is powered by the airline’s loyalty programme, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and offers a range of benefits curated for students to support them throughout their educational journey.

Members of Student Club will enjoy significant savings and bespoke benefits such as special fares on flights, extra baggage allowances, the flexibility to change the dates of their flight, complimentary Super Wi-Fi onboard, and more. They will also be automatically enrolled to Qatar Airways Privilege Club – unlocking even more generous rewards – and will receive a tier upgrade as a graduation gift as well as the opportunity to earn 5,000 Qmiles if they refer a friend to Student Club. If you already reached the top of Privilege Club with Platinum status, Qatar Airways will gift you an extra year of status. As members of Privilege Club, students will earn Qmiles when travelling with Qatar Airways, oneworld member airlines, or any of the airline’s partners.

Student Club members will receive a digital card, which can be stored in their mobile wallet or Qatar Airways mobile app, indicating their membership tier. All students in full- and part-time education aged between 18 and 30 years are eligible to join the programme. To join the Student Club, visit qatarairways.com/StudentClub.

Benefits of enrolling for Student Club from Qatar Airways

The benefits that a student seeks from their loyalty programme differs from that the high-fliers who are either travelling on a company account or have no problem shelling out the dough for a ticket at the front of the plane. Then, Qatar Airways is segmenting this considerable market and trying to scoop it up with unique benefits including airfare discounts, and obviously, free wi-fi for the gram. Here are all the benefits you can avail as a Student Club member:

  • Join to receive your first promo code and get 10% off your first booking. When you fly, you will receive a second promo code for 15% off, and once you travel on your second trip, you will receive your promo code to save 20% off a third booking.
  • As a Burgundy Student Club member, you can take an additional 10 kgs or one more piece of baggage on flights depending on your route.
  • Book on qatarairways.com or mobile app and get complimentary high-speed Super Wi-Fi to stay connected on board with the fastest high-speed broadband in the skies.
  • Travel at least once a year as a Student Club member and receive a Privilege Club tier upgrade when you graduate.
  • Take advantage of flexible booking options, including one complimentary date change.

Not just that, Qatar Airways will soon be adding family benefits to the Students Club as well.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, said: “Our brand new Student Club is designed specifically with students’ needs in mind. Travel is an important part of their life, with many choosing to study abroad for the duration of their university career or a semester. We also know that long university vacations are a wonderful opportunity for students to visit family or friends or to explore the world. Having listened to the needs of our current student passengers, we are delighted to help them to aim for the skies with our Student Club.”
The airline’s new programme for students is part of its wider transformation of Qatar Airways Privilege Club, which is being redefined to ensure that passengers are rewarded for their continued loyalty and receive the very best offers and benefits.

Bottomline

Qatar Airways is launching a loyalty programme targetted especially at students, and this is excellent news. For one, Qatar Airways has a great product. Secondly, this is a cool segmentation of customers, who most necessarily need to travel when they enrol for an international programme. So instead of offering them the same perks as another run-of-the-mill frequent flyer, QR has focussed on the segment and only provided the perks that would be beneficial to this market.

What do you think of the new Student Club Qatar Airways? If you are a student, would you find this beneficial?
