Mumbai airport to operate 50 incoming and outgoing flights June 16, 2020 onwards

Last month, Indian authorities announced the resumption of domestic flights in India, with several safeguard measures in place. One of the assurances given to everyone at the time of relaunching flights by the ministry was that there would be one India one policy and people won’t have to fear getting locked down in the other state with a quarantine.

Subsequently, various states started to bring up their own rules, many of whom want to quarantine people on arrival into the state. Maharashtra’s initial stance was that they won’t allow the Mumbai airport to open at all. However, the state allowed Mumbai Airport to resume operations from May 25, 2020, onwards. The scale of operations was limited and Mumbai was allowed 25 arrivals and 25 departures on a daily basis. However, all other airports of Maharashtra resumed one-third operations from May 25 onwards. Having said that, with the onset of the monsoons and with the cyclone being a bother for a day or so, operations have been less than 25 flights a day.

However, now, the Mumbai Airport is upping its quota and allowing 100 domestic commercial flights a day (50 arrivals and 50 departures). This should allow for better planning and resource allocation, as between themselves, all the airlines can add more flights daily to Mumbai and from Mumbai as compared to the pittance they were allowed before.

I am not saying we will see the outcome in one day, but within a day or two, we should see more flights mounting on the Mumbai Airport. All the flights, for now, will operate out of Mumbai Airport Terminal 2, so plan accordingly.

Check your flight schedules till the moment you leave from home, because who knows if your flight is operating or not, eventually.
