A new twist has emerged to the plan for everyone across India not stepping out of their homes on March 22, 2020, voluntarily. Airlines have figured there will be no people, or hardly any people to fly this Sunday, and will also not fly (much) on Sunday, March 22, 2020.

GoAir

GoAir, late evening on March 20, 2020, decided that they will not operate any flights on March 22, 2020. But, it is not like they will get you your money back. GoAir will keep your money and allow you to use it anytime during the next year on any sector. There is a smart choice of words here, calling it suspension rather than a cancellation. Also, I believe when the airline cancels a flight, it should give you the option to refund the entire amount.

Ironically, and in what could be a mistake or malpractice, GoAir was selling tickets for March 22, 2020, even after announcing this cancellation for the whole day. Here is a screenshot taken at 12:21 AM on March 21, 2020, about 2 hours after the airline made this announcement the first time.

IndiGo

IndiGo has decided to reduce its domestic schedule to match market demand over the next few weeks.

On March 22, the airline will be operating approximately 60% of its regular domestic schedule, to accommodate those with urgent travel requirements on that day. The reduction will be mainly between 7 AM and 9 PM, and if you have an affected flight, you can head to goindigo.in and reschedule your flight for free.

IndiGo has also announced that it will trim domestic India operations by approximately 25% for now.

Vistara

Vistara has also decided to operate a reduced network on Sunday, March 22, 2020. They will be contacting affected customers separately.

A quick look on the Vistara website already reflects the cancellations. For instance only three direct Mumbai – Delhi flights instead of the 14 usually. But surprisingly, all six flights between Mumbai and Bangalore are still showing up as operating.

Bottomline

If there were any plans you had to travel on March 22, 2020, and you are still flying, you should consider postponing these unless they are very urgent. Airlines will not be operating to full capacity on March 22.

Update: Turns out TruJet will also keep their fleet on the ground on March 22, 2020.
