Like I wrote earlier today, Paytm & Citibank have come together to launch the Paytm First Credit Card today. When I wrote the post, I did not have any details of the nature of the card. I was invited to be a part of the launch, but since I was on the road, I could not make it back to Mumbai in time. However, I got the full scoop on the card, and here it is.
The Paytm First Card will be India’s first card with a 1% universal unlimited cashback, and no restrictions on earning categories. Like you would have read this morning, I was pondering myself between cashback and category multiplier rewards. But cashback is a category that Paytm carved for themselves, and they are going with this on their newest project.
The Paytm First Credit Card will come with an annual fee of INR 500, which will be waived when you spend exceeding INR 50,000 through the year on the card. Paytm customers can apply for the credit card on their Paytm app, where they will also be able to track offers through the Paytm First Card passbook.
Paytm First Card customers will be awarded Paytm promo-codes worth INR 10,000 on spending a minimum of INR 10,000 on the credit card within the first four months of issuance.
Paytm will identify the potential base using a selection tool, jointly developed by Citi and Paytm, to assess
creditworthiness. This provides an alternative to underwrite customers, who otherwise may or
may not have a credit history, going on the back of their digital history which Paytm will provide.
The 1% universal cashback differentiates the Paytm First Credit Card from Citibank’s own Cashback Credit Card, which offers 2.6% cashback on fuel, 1.3% cash back on grocery and 0.66% cashback on everything else and is much on the lines of the Apple Card that was launched in the USA recently.
Bottomline
This is a great initiative by Citibank and Paytm, to come together and seed more credit cards in the market. The 1% universal cashback is great for those who prefer a simplified lifestyle, rather than the points accumulation, which is a different genre altogether.
What do you make of the Paytm First Credit Card from Citibank and Paytm?
Does this card offer airport lounge access ?
Great post. Good to see some competition for Apple Card.
Correction : ‘ Citibank’s own Cashback Credit Card, which offers 2.6% cashback on fuel, 1.3% cash back on grocery and 0.66% cashback on everything else’
This is the CitiBank IndianOil Card with 1k annual fee waiver on 30k spends, you are talking about. The Indian Citi CashBack with Rs. 500 fixed annual fee runs 5% on Utility, Telecom and Movies with a limit of 100/- on Cashback per month per category and 0.5% cashback unlimited cashback elsewhere.
I was invited to be a part of the launch, but since I was on the road, I could not make it back to Mumbai in time.
What a wannabe man! Rest post- very informative
@Sahil, please do tell me how does not making it to a launch event make me wannabe. The information you take off this website so easily, took me 9 years to create the relationships and the network to make it all work smoothly. It’s easy to piss over someone elses hard work. Get to my level and then we talk who is the wannabe.
Ajay, Wannabe isn’t a negative term here. Vijay Shekhar uses it positively for people who are aspirers. Look up his Twitter and search for “Wannabe” 🙂
Bhai, Does this card have Lounge acess ?
Paytm payments bank rupay debit card has. So I am using and doesn’t matter to me even if the latest card has that. You can also use the paytm payments bank rupay debit card and get lounge access !!
Could you list lounges you accessed with patym rupay card?
Bcoz i can’t access in any.
Chennai,Mumbai,Delhi,Kolkata,Bangalore,Hyderabad and even more have Lounge acess.
Do check their website or in the paytm app
I am using the Paytm payments bank rupay debit card, and have accessed lounge many times.
And also 2 times a quarter is not enough for me.
Being a student I can’t use any credit card, so that’s is why I am asking weather this one would have Lounge acess.
(As it is tied up with CITI expecting INTL.Lounge acess)
@Aakash, I think you are asking for more than your means. If 2 times is not enough, you should pay for the lounge then. Too much to expect everything to be served up to you for free
