Earlier this week, Jet Airways suspended flights, leading to a situation where they are no longer a member of IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plan, at least for the time being. This also means the airline will no longer be able to issue any tickets, using their ticket code 589- for the time being. This has had a direct impact on JetPrivilege’s ability to issue partner tickets, and as a consequence, partner bookings have been suspended at the moment for Jet Airways partners as well. As of today, at least, there is a new notice on the JetPrivilege website which talks about the partner bookings being suspended. No more redeem JPMiles for partner redemptions then.
I am not in India at the moment, and I have not tried to reach out to JetPrivilege on this account at the moment. But what I do know is that Etihad bookings can still be made while all other partner bookings are suspended. This could purely be because JetPrivilege has no access to the billing systems of different airlines.
I will update on this situation as it progresses, but as of now, it looks like the value of JPMiles is in free fall, given you cannot use them for flights on Jet Airways, obviously, and neither can you use them for flights on JP partners such as Air France, ANA or others. The only thing possible for now is, you can use them for buying tickets on other airlines. This is not good.
When was the last time you were able to issue a redemption ticket on Jet Airways stock for your JPMiles redemptions? Do share your experience with us.
JP Miles are done and dusted. Jet Privilege site has come back again banner for weeks now. Stuck with a ****ing cobranded card from HDFC and the bank wont budge to convert the card to any other variant! 20k miles also i assume are gone down the drain.
I had partner awards issued on Jet stock (589) with Etihad (tickets issues in March, for flights in June). I got in touch with JP Member Services on Twitter yesterday (20-Apr) and gave them the e-ticket nos and this morning I got an email from them with revised ticket numbers on EY stock (607). So it seems all is good for travel.
@split infinitive
I am in similar situation. Can you please specify the Twitter handle of memberservices please?
@JetAirways – send them a DM with e-ticket no and PNR
Did the same! Dumped my JP miles too! The “buying ticket” option is so skewed against the consumer. I guess it’s a good way for the airline to reduce its outstanding mileage debt on its balance sheet as people are going to start dumping these (now worthless?) miles?
Ajay, what happens to the partner tickets already issued on Jet stock (589)?
Got a mail an hour ago from JP quoting the same:
“We thank you for being part of our growing JetPrivilege family which stands strong at 9.8 million members. As our airline partner, Jet Airways, navigates through these turbulent times, we understand that you may have concerns around the value and validity of your JPMiles.
We, at Jet Privilege Pvt. Ltd., as part of the Etihad Aviation Group, want to reassure you that your JPMiles are secure and their value remains intact. We know that you have earned and nurtured your JPMiles over the years and we consider it our foremost duty to safeguard the trust you and our partners have placed in us.
Keeping you at the centre of our business, we have introduced our air reward offering,
‘Select Flights’, which allows you to redeem your JPMiles across more airlines, any destination in India and globally. What’s more, you can redeem your JPMiles for any seat available on the flight, starting with the same JPMiles requirement as before which was applicable on Jet Airways and its partner airlines.”
Given what Etihad did with Air Berlin & TopBonus rewards program, I won’t bet too much on the value of those miles. I redeemed by 6 figure balance at a horrible conversion rate for some amazon vouchers. Luckily 80% of my miles currency is in airline agnostic programs giving me with some protection and flexibility in terms of usage. Already moving my Jet co-branded cards to other options.
Manish,What other options r you considering
Hi Karan
As I mentioned I have redeemed majority of my JP miles and do not hold very significant balance with the program at this stage. If you do not wish to redeem the JP miles, then there aren’t many other options to consider except for holding the balance and hoping for a turn around and praying the redemption chart remains more or less the same.
However if your decision to hold is based on the fact that Etihad is the owner of Jet Privilege and that it’s a separate legal entity, will some how have a different fate compared to Jet Airways, then I wouldn’t advice you to bet too much on it. Jet Privilege success/failure is completely tied to Jet Airways. If the airlines goes down, the Jet privilege program for all practical purposes will be dead.
i think its too early to panic and try to convert your jet privilege miles..wait for may end and there is a chance for resolution of crisis. i am hopeful..
I am still holding onto about 40K miles with the hope that the airline does turn around without screwing the redemption chart. Of course there is a good chance these miles will be worthless once Jet is dragged to the bankruptcy court. It really depends on your risk appetite and what these miles mean to you.
Dear Nitin
I agree with you. Let us wait and watch. I feel they should be back on track and get out of the crisis.
