After my 6-hour long trip to Singapore, I had a hard time getting through immigration, where the queues were miles long and not the usual experience in Singapore. I had an 8 PM dinner meeting, and unfortunately, my timing was going all sorts of off thanks to this delay.

For this trip, I was booked at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, a hotel that has been on my list of hotels to go to in Singapore for long. The hotel underwent refurbishments in 2017/2018, so everything was fresh and new. The hotel was full, so for this stay, I was booked into an Executive King Room.

I had already used the Hilton Honors app to process my check-in, and when I arrived at the hotel, my keycard was ready. I picked up my keys from the lobby front desk and headed straight to my room. My room was located on the 31st Floor, which was an Executive Floor, with the Executive lounge on the same floor. I had already requested for a late check-out and was confirmed to be able to hold my room till 4 PM.

The lobby was imposing. I loved the greenery being placed inside the lobby.

Unfortunately, in spite of being a Diamond Member of Hilton Honors, I was not upgraded on this stay. That shouldn’t matter on a one-night stay where I was anyways travelling solo. On arrival, turndown was already done, and the room was ready for me to crash for the night if I so wanted.

The room was massive in size, and as you enter, the bathroom was laid out first, but you could eventually have an excellent view of the Marina Bay from your window. The room decor was minimalistic, just the way I like it, and on my bed was one of those tiny Conrad toy bears tucked in to give me company.

A large couch ran through the side of the room, with an impressive view of the bay. The sofa served up as a day-bed as well and was one of the new features added to the room in the refurbishment of last year. I’ve increasingly started to like this concept, something I have seen at other hotels as well, such as the Andaz Delhi.

Across the bed was a small table which could be used for work or dining, and on that table, there was a large number of welcome amenities placed. It also had a set of plug points so that you could use this table as a work desk as well.

There was fruit, a big box of pralines, perhaps placed to welcome me as a Diamond member, and then another smaller one which was probably put in all the rooms anyways. There was also a large bowl of fruits.

The room was surprisingly full of plug points, something a lot of hotels do not get right even in this age of smartphones. They also had USB charging ports.

In the pathway from the door to the room, there was the minibar, along with a Nespresso coffee machine.

The shower was luxuriously done up. There was a bathtub, a shower chamber and his and her basin as well.

The shower amenities were from Shanghai Tang, which is the latest brand to make it to all their premium rooms. I had used the same amenities in their suites at the Conrad Istanbul Bosphorus just the week prior. But if you would rather have amenities from Temple Spa or Refinery, you can just call the Conrad Concierge to request for those.

The Conrad now has two lounges inside the hotel. The lounge on the 31st floor is only for guests who are booked in Executive Rooms or the Suites. Other guests, who for instance, get access through their Hilton Honors Diamond membership get access to the lounge on the 4th floor.

As my room was on the Executive floor, the following benefits were made available to me:

• Access to the Executive Lounge located on Level 31, from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM
• Personalised check-in and check-out at the Lounge
• Complimentary light-pressing for three items per stay
• Complimentary local calls and standard WiFi access (Hilton Honors Diamond members get premium internet access)
• Complimentary 2-hour usage of meeting room daily (except on weekends)
• 20% discount on a la carte treatments at Conrad Spa
• Daily buffet breakfast between 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM during weekdays and till 11 AM during weekends
• Afternoon tea from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
• Evening cocktails from 5:30 PM to 8 PM

I was able to change and be ready in time to make a quick dash to the Executive Lounge where the evening Hors d’oeuvre was still on.

The Executive Lounge was pretty crowded when I got there, so I could not get any good pictures of the lounge per se. But I did get a lot of good photos of the evening canapes on offer. There was a salad bar, some cold salads and hot bites. You could have a light dinner in the Lounge if you wanted.

Evening cocktails are served from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM every day, and there is a reasonable collection of wines and spirits available at this time. Soft beverages are available throughout the day.

In spite of the busy lounge, I was able to get a table by the window, which had a good view of the Marina Bay. While I did not have time to sip on a cocktail, a very attentive lounge attendant came over as soon as I took my seat. I asked him about the best cocktail he had to offer me, and he brought me a rose Gin & Tonic in a jiffy. It was fabulous.

I went out for dinner, and on getting back to the hotel, planned to catch up with some friends. The Conrad Centennial Singapore has a bistro outlet called The Terrace, which offers a quick bite on the go, lots of sandwiches and bakery options. They also had an extensive tea menu. Since it was going to be about 10 in the night and the neighbouring options were all closed, I chose to meet them at The Terrace itself.

The next morning, I woke up to a gorgeous view of the Marina Bay area. It was cloudy but still beautiful. The Conrad Centennial Singapore is in good company, with the Pan Pacific and the Marina Mandarin in the vicinity.

The Conrad Singapore is next to the Suntec City, and I got a great view of the Fountain of Wealth from my room.

For breakfast, I was given the option to choose from a continental breakfast at the Executive Lounge itself, or I could head to Oscar’s restaurant where a full breakfast was served, as a part of my Hilton Diamond benefits. While I wanted to go and check out the full breakfast, it was a Monday morning, and I had a lot to finish up before I stepped out for the day. So, I gave it a miss. Again, the lounge was full, and I could only get pictures of the some of the lounge’s breakfast offering.

Breakfast was rushed, but everything I had tasted very nice. The attention at the lounge was prompt, and the staff was helpful. Before leaving the lounge, I confirmed my departure time of 4 PM again from the lounge front desk, and then I was on my way.

This 4 PM late check-out turned out to be a lifesaver since I only got back to the hotel at about 3:45 PM. While I had left my bag packed, I had not checked out since I wanted to switch out from formal clothes to jeans before I left the hotel. After finishing up everything, I headed to the Executive Lounge front desk to process my checkout, which was taken care of quickly.

After the checkout, I was in bad need of a coffee, so I asked the lounge attendant if I could still grab a cappuccino before I headed out. They were more than welcoming, and I got a good coffee with a nice view of the Marina Bay before getting out of there.

I left my bag for the concierge to hold for a while and headed to the nearest WeWork, where I had one more meeting before I was done for this trip with work.

On crediting the stay to my Hilton Honors account, I got 13,700 Hilton Honors points, which included a Diamond 100% bonus and welcome points, and also points from the triple points promotion going on at the time.

Bottomline

Overall, Conrad Centennial Singapore was one of the plushest hotels I’ve stayed at in Singapore, and I could not recommend it enough. It was close to the Marina Bay district, the Central Business District and had a very nice bed and some very roomy rooms. The people were friendly and the hotel was good.
