Singapore Airlines is all set to return to the position of operating the longest flight in the world, between Singapore and Newark later this year. The flight will commence operations from October 11, 2018, and will go daily after a week. At 18 hours 45 minutes, it is one long ride but in a fancy aircraft which is going to be specially remodelled for Singapore Airlines to be able to go that far. No other customers for the Airbus A350-900ULR exist at the moment.
Singapore Airlines new plane would be configured for Business Class and Premium Economy, much like the A340s they had when they launched the route the first time around.
Award redemptions on these flights have always been in demand, but SQ has been holding off so far. Last evening, Singapore Airlines finally seems to have released saver level award space in Business Class. Enough to take your whole family along. On many days 4+ business class award seats are available.
This is available from the time the schedule launches (sporadic) and then becomes a regular feature as time passes by. Saver level award seats on this Singapore Airlines’ flight cost 92,000 KrisFlyer miles one-way and 70 SGD on the way out from Singapore, and 5.60 USD if you are flying in the other direction.
At this point in time, availability is not showing up on other Star Alliance programs (I’ve called Air India, and tried LifeMiles). Singapore Airlines has usually limited availability for premium awards on their own program for redemptions, so that is nothing new.
Remember, Singapore Airlines is transfer partners with Citibank and HDFC Bank amongst others, so you should be able to get across those miles pretty easy from these transfer partners.
I’ve been on the second longest flight in the world back in 2013 from Los Angeles to Singapore, and this time around, I have all the intentions of making it to the longest flight as well. However, I’m just not sure about my schedules yet so I haven’t pulled the trigger.
What about you? How many of you are planning to get themselves an award ticket on the nonstop to Newark?

I just transferred a whole bunch of Citibank points onto Krisflyer so I am totally onboard with this.
If you are tall you should rethink about booking this flight on A350 since you have to lie-down almost diagonally. There are lot of reviews available. If you are already booked you may look at the reviews for bulkhead seats in Rows 11 and 19.I was intially planning to book this flight when the AMD to SIN sale was on last month however I decied to go with SIN to JFK with a technical stop in FRA that files on A380.
Care to do a step by step on how to book this?
