Emirates introduces revamped My Family programme

With this move, family members can pool 100% of their earned Skywards Miles and redeem them for anyone in the family. In the earlier version of Emirates Family programme, one could receive 20% of the miles for the people who’d travel as a part of the family group.

How it works

Any Emirates Skywards member is eligible to join the programme by setting up a My Family account. Each account can host up to eight members, including the Family Head. The Family Head merely is any member, above the age of 18, who is responsible for creating the account, redeeming Skywards Miles, making the travel bookings and managing the overall account.

The Family Head can invite up to eight members of the immediate family. All the members need be individual Emirates Skywards members. Immediate family members include:

  • Husband
  • Wife
  • Partner
  • Son / Step-Son
  • Daughter / Step-Daughter
  • Mother / Mother-in-Law / Step-Mother
  • Father / Father-in-Law / Step-Father

When you are added to a “My Family” account, you can choose your Skywards Miles contribution percentage of 0%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%. For any future Emirates flights, you can choose to contribute some or all of the Skywards Miles you earn into your My Family account. Any remaining Miles will go into your individual Emirates Skywards account. Also, you can change your contribution percentage at any time. You can automatically pool Miles into your My Family account with little hassle. Everyone will, however, earn tier miles to qualify for his or her status individually.

Validity

The Miles in your My Family account will be valid for three years from the date of travel. In the calendar year that the Miles are due to expire, they will be removed from all relevant accounts at the end of your birth month. Don’t forget – you can set up automated messages to remind you when your Miles are set to expire.

The carrier has been introducing some changes over the last few weeks to increase their Skywards member’s flexibility in earning and redeeming Miles. Emirates has also teased some more new offerings in the coming months.

What do you think of the revamped programme? Would you use this programme to book tickets for family holidays?

PS: We think it may still be a better idea to credit your miles to Alaska Air Mileage Plan!

Comments

  1. Alaska is the only one left to devalue. esp now that JAL and CX have done so, and bearing in mind these were the only sweet spot redemptions using mileage plan, its bound to happen
