SpiceJet has been trying to innovate, with little success however. They launched SpiceClub earlier this year to be able to get customers to come back to using them over and over again. However, they changed the program right after launch, and then recently again.
One of the parts I did not touch upon so far (because I was trying to understand it), was the loyalty benefits of SpiceClub. SpiceJet has quietly rolled out Loyalty Rewards as well for the members of their SpiceClub program. Under the program which was launched in August 2016, the following rewards will be offered to customers:
- 5 points for every 100 INR spent on SpiceJet flights between August 8, 2016 and September 30, 2016 (booked & travelled).
- 2 points for every 100 INR spent on SpiceJet flights on or after October 1, 2016.
For the introductory offer, only domestic flights and add-ons for domestic/international flights will count. However, for the regular offer of 2 points/INR 100 spent, all domestic & international flights of SpiceJet will be eligible, including add-on spend such as SpiceMax.
Here is the catch, however. Only the SpiceClub members will get the Loyalty Rewards points. So, if you have booked a ticket for 5 passengers, you only get the points on your own spend. You can redeem these points at INR 1 per point value for buying tickets or add-ons on SpiceJet flights.
The other catch, unlike other frequent flyer programs, you only get points if you booked directly with SpiceJet on the website/app or their phone booking service. Also, when you use the SpiceRewards for a part redemption, you don’t get points for the rest of the amount paid in cash as well.
2% Bonus
Apart from the 2% bonus that you will get on your flights, SpiceJet is also currently offering a 2% bonus when you choose to keep cash in your SpiceClub Account as Spice Points. Each Spice Point is worth INR 1, so for topping up your account for INR 1000, you should be getting INR 1020 as Spice Points.
Bottomline
SpiceJet’s SpiceClub is clearly trying to corner marketshare from OTAs, and an attempt to get people to book direct with SpiceJet rather than go via an OTA. They are offering a 4% cashback (2% via topup bonus and 2% on travel), and this is better than nothing on SpiceJet travel. However, the full-service carriers still offer a better value than this half-baked attempt at SpiceJet for loyalty, because there are too many ifs and buts in this department and hence I am not fully convinced about the utility.

I had opted for fast forward my luggage, at the check in point it was properly labeled. However, on arrival at my destination my luggage was loaded to conveyor belt much later while the priority tag was still attached to it.
On complaining to Spice Jet, they sent a bunch of auto response to my email but never compensated me for the failed service nor came up with any solution. I relented with a poor experience on their handling of customer relations.

I agree, there are so many ifs and buts. also if you purchase any add-ons through spicecash points and if transaction fails after debiting your spiceclub account, amount will not get auto reversed. You have to follow up through email channel only. They do not provide any on call support for spiceclub related issues. But at least among LCC’s SpiceJet is providing some sort of frequentflyer benefits . So there’s a reason to fly with them.
