Unlike other hotel loyalty programs like Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) & IHG Rewards Club , Hilton HHonors reviews its hotel category changes a bit differently. Rather than announcing the hotel category changes annually in one go, Hilton publishes these changes on a quarterly basis. Effective July 13, 2016 Hilton HHonors has announced hotel category changes for 33 participating hotels, where 20 Hilton properties will cost more for an award night and 13 hotels will require fewer points for redemption.
Hilton hotels range from Category 1 to 10 and an award night redemption starts at 5,000 points going all the way up to 95,000 points. Hilton’s newest addition in India, the Conrad Pune which has recently been listed as a Category 4 property costs 20,000 HHonors points, while reward redemption at Double Tree by Hilton in Gurgaon, another Category 4 property will only cost you 30,000 points.
With just 16 properties across India, this category change does not affect any of the Indian properties. Most of the these changes affects hotels in the US and there is only one Hilton hotel in APAC (Malaysia) that is falling down by 2 categories. If you are considering a stay at one of the properties going up in price, be sure to book by July 13, 2016. Meanwhile for a stay at one of the properties going down, it’s ideal to book after July 13, 2016. Though the list of hotels going down is quite uninspiring.
Are you planning to redeem points at any of the Hilton properties undergoing category change this quarter?
