Hotel loyalty programs are all in full swing with their promotions for the first quarter of 2016 and this year Hilton has brought back its Double Your HHonors promotion for 2016. The first thing to note is that this promotion is nothing new and is nearly identical to the promotion Hilton has been offering for the last 2 years.

This promotion is valid for stays between January1 until April 30,2016 and the proposition is quite simple:

Hilton members who opt for ”Points & Points” will earn double the number of base Hilton Hhonors points on every stay. On the other hand, members who choose ”Points & Miles” will earn double the number of base airline miles of every stay during the promotion period.

Remember that members are not automatically enrolled for this promotion and will need to register themselves. They will also need to choose between 2x Hhonors points and 2x airline miles. Bear in mind once the selection is made it cannot be changed.

With only 16 properties across India, Hilton by far has the smallest number hotels among the major global hotel chains in India. Among the 10 brands the Hilton owns only 5 brands (Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Double Tree, Hampton and Conrad)  are present in India and most of these operate in the mid-market space. This means that a 1 night stay at more than 50% of Hilton hotels in India costs between INR 3,000 and INR 5,000.

Also, If you are not a regular Hilton guest it may be a better idea to earn miles in your chosen airline program. Among the 60 airlines listed in this promotion Jet Airways is the only Indian airline participating.

Bottomline: The good thing about this promotion is that ALL Hilton properties are included, unlike some other hotel chains which have excluded a number of properties in their first quarter promotions.(SPG has no Indian hotel participating). Though the downside is that you need a lot of Hhonors points (70,000+ points) to book a top tier stay at Hilton. Considering they have a small footprint in India and since I don’t stay at Hilton enough to stack up ample number of points for a 2-3 days stay, this brand does not make much sense for me.

However, if you are a globe trotter, HHonors loyalist and stay at Hilton properties often then this promotion may make sense for you.
