50% off on Singapore Airlines Economy Awards till July’15

Singapore Airlines is offering 50% off on economy redemption tickets from select cities this summer to celebrate Singapore’s 50th Anniversary.

That just means your miles became double their worth. The following 28 destinations get the 50% discount to and fro Singapore, however specific flights described on the home page only get those discounts:

  • Bali: 3750 miles o.w.
  • Jakarta: 3750 miles o.w.
  • Jog-Jakarta: 3750 o.w.
  • Kuching: 3750 o.w.
  • Bangkok: 6250 o.w.
  • Hanoi: 6250 o.w.
  • Manila: 6250 o.w.
  • Phuket: 6250 o.w.
  • Changsha: 7500 o.w.
  • Chengdu: 7500 o.w.
  • Hong Kong: 7500 o.w.
  • Taipei: 7500 o.w.
  • Beijing: 10000 o.w.
  • Shanghai: 10000 o.w.
  • Nagoya: 11250 o.w.
  • Seoul: 11250 o.w.
  • Bangalore: 9250 o.w.
  • Colombo: 9250 o.w.
  • Maldives: 9250 o.w.
  • Mumbai: 9250 o.w.
  • Cape Town: 12500 o.w.
  • Jo’burg: 12500 o.w.
  • Darwin: 10000 o.w.
  • Perth: 10000 o.w.
  • Brisbane: 12500 o.w.
  • London: 17500 o.w.
  • Zurich: 17500 o.w.
  • Houston: 18750 o.w.

Mumbai and Bangalore get these redemptions at 50% off, which is lovely, but don’t jump on the table just yet. They have massive fuel surcharges which makes it a thoroughly unattractive offer, still! For instance, I checked the Mumbai-Singapore tables, and they wanted 9250 miles + INR 8700 or so towards a one way ticket. And on top of that, the promotion is valid for ticketing and travel till July 10, 2015 only.

A random few dates show round trip tickets are available for INR 26000 onwards. So, even if you booked a round trip with miles, you will only get 17000 miles = INR 8330 in value which is clearly about 50 paise per mile. Bad value in my own book, since I’d rather buy a revenue ticket and earn miles on those as well.

Here are the T&C:

  1. Bookings may only be made on singaporeair.com.
  2. Bookings are valid only for online redemption of applicable Saver awards in Economy Class on selected Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights.
  3. Online redemption bookings must be made by 10 July 2015.
  4. Tickets redeemed through this promotion are not applicable for upgrades.
  5. The travel period is from 20 May to 10 July 2015. All travel on the above selected flights must be completed by 10 July 2015.
  6. There will be no 15% online redemption booking discount for this promotion in addition to the 50% redemption discount.
  7. Taxes, fuel surcharges and fees are applicable in addition to the required redemption mileage and paid separately by the passenger in the applicable currency.

In case you are going, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is a transfer partner with Citibank amongst others, and the miles show up in a day or two in your account.

  1. IIRC most the Asian airlines have such crappy fuel surcharges which makes them so unattractive for award ticket redemptions. It almost seems like a scam ;)…
