Vistara, the full-service carrier which counts Tata and Singapore Airlines as parents, has moved one step forward toward flying Internationally. Yesterday, the airline received their 21st aircraft. As per the latest Indian regulations, an airline needs to have a minimum of 20 aircraft to be able to start flying abroad. Oddly enough, smaller airlines from other countries can fly into India, but for Indian carriers, this is the new norm.
Vistara has patiently built a differentiated product in the Indian market, which includes many firsts, including a Premium Economy class, good food, a lounge of their own, and hospitable service.
For the record, here is the 21st Aircraft, under a rainbow, looking pretty, before delivery from Toulouse.
A few weeks ago, we speculated that Vistara is going for an all Boeing fleet, with the Boeing 737 MAX for their narrowbody fleet, and Boeing 787 for their widebody fleet.
However, it seems, as per Bloomberg, the airline will continue with Airbus for their narrowbody fleet and go with Boeing for the widebodies.
While Vistara has not themselves commented on their fleet decision, or their international destinations, Business Standard reports that they will fly from Delhi to Bangkok and Colombo in the winter schedule of 2018. We should expect an announcement on the international schedule anytime now!
Would be interesting to see the hard product they deploy on the international routes. Will it be a copy of the current SQ seat, or something totally different.
I think they have a great oppurtunity to take on Jet on international routes, especially with Jets outdated herringbone product in C
@747Always, the current product would fly for the next 1-2 years on the narrowbodies, while they place the order and start to receive their new planes. Also, Jet would leave the herringbone sooner than later. Herringbone is now patented, and when Jet Airways goes for a densification of their product, they will cut the First Class, so, put a newer J product as well then.
