Singapore institutes pre-departure CoVid-19 negative tests for those with recent travel history to India

Singapore has been under pretty strict lockdown over the past many months, and the country has still not opened up for visitors. The only people who are allowed to enter the country are those who have residential permits of Singapore or similar visas and residents of Singapore. This permission to enter has been pretty hard, and many people have been rejected over and over again for their permission to enter Singapore to re-join their work and so on.

However, it seems that things will be becoming even more difficult for those who intend to return to Singapore in the coming days. Singapore’s Ministry of Health has taken new steps to contain the spread of the virus from those arriving from India. As per MoH, Singapore,

We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in India. There have been reports of a resurgence of infections in India. Singapore has also observed a significant number of imported cases with recent travel history to India.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health has hence issued new guidelines for those who travel from India to Singapore (predominantly Indian citizens who work or live in Singapore, that is). The new policy institutes a CoVid-19 negative test report requirement, with the test being taken not more than 72 hours before departure.

To reduce the risk of importation of cases from India, travellers who are not Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents and who have recent travel history to India within the last 14 days prior to entry will be required to take a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test within 72 hours before departure. Travellers will need to present a valid negative COVID-19 test result as a condition of approval to enter Singapore. This requirement will take effect for those arriving in Singapore from 17 September 2020, 0000 hours, and will apply on top of the existing requirements of a 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) at dedicated SHN facilities and a negative COVID-19 test before the end of their SHN.

Bottomline

Indians who are travelling to Singapore in the coming days will need to take note of the fact that they need to produce a CoVid-19 negative test report with a test not more than 72 hours before departure. They will be tested again after their two-week-long isolation.
