Review: Radisson Blu Toulouse Airport

When I arrived at Toulouse Airport, I had transport waiting to take me to the Radisson Blu Toulouse Airport. It was about a ten-minute ride to arrive at the hotel on this rainy evening. The hotel has a shuttle to the airport running 24 hours, and if you wanted to walk, it would be 10 minutes as well. The hotel is situated amidst office blocks on all sides, but very well connected to the public transport system.

This one is a business hotel, so the lobby was small, not opulent and very functional. It leads to a bar and restaurant further down.

I walked to my left to check-in and collected my keycard.

I was offered a Delux Room located on the third floor. There were functional chairs as you get out of the elevator. Moreover, for whatever reason, the hallways were mood-lit in a shade of purple, as if they were taking inspiration from the Aloft hotels.

My room was a short walk down the hallway. Across me were the Business Class rooms which had a view of the road and better furnishings inside.

The room itself was reasonably large and comfortable for one. There was enough space to move around and not trip over my bag if I had to open it on the floor. This hotel was much better than my last years’ hotel to Toulouse where I was putting up at a hotel in the city center, but the rooms were tiny.

Of course, the hotel figured everything should be functional, even the lights. So we had a couple of standing lamps and reading lamps, but no one place where the entire room could be lit up in one go. I hate the part where I have to pick on this minor detail as it stresses out my eyes while trying to work.

The room had a view of the central courtyard of the hotel, which is also part of their all-day dining restaurant.
The room had a work desk with the chair placed with a view out of the window rather than into the room. Nice thought, I would say. There was space good to put one bag as well.

There was a generic pod-operated espresso coffee maker placed in the room, and there were a reasonable number of pods stocked up as well. The water bottle was refilled every day, so no need to drink out of the tap. I happened to run into the housekeeping one day as I was leaving, and they were sweet enough to put a couple of extra bottles in the room as per my request.

There was also another couch in the room, which could be used to sit and watch television if one wanted. Although there wasn’t much to see except for news.

In spite of this being an airport hotel, there was no noise of consequence from the airport nearby given the double glazed windows.

The minibar did not have any alco-beverages inside, and pretty bare basic. I wonder if an honest bar would have been a better idea in the lobby in current times rather than having to maintain this.

The bathroom had no wash chambers, but old school tubs to walk into for your shower. Amenities were the usual Radisson brand, This Works, nothing fancy.

Wifi is complimentary through the hotel and worked very well for me. You did not have to expressly log-in, but I am not sure how this will work out after the GDPR comes into force end of this month.

I stepped down for a drink in the evening, and the bar seemed to have everything you could need.

The Restaurant La Vie En Rose was the venue of one of the social evenings, and the food was overall delicious. Apart from the dining that morning, I was back for breakfast at the same restaurant the next morning when it was calmer and quieter. There are all sorts of seats for dining solo to groups of ten as well. There was also an open kitchen serving up food.

Breakfast was served 6 AM onwards here. Moreover, in true French fashion, the hotel did not disappoint on the breakfast at all. As I picked a seat, the host came over and brought me a pot of coffee.

There were tonnes of choices including the usual options such as cereal, cold cuts, bread, cheese, fresh cut fruits, and juices.

For hot options, there was some very lovely crispy bacon, sausages, and hash browns. The restaurant could also make you eggs to order if you would ask for them. I asked for the most basic recipe this morning, and it was brought up in about ten minutes.

When in France, eat as the French do. They had some delicious Croissants and Pain-au-chocolat which I may or may not have taken second helpings of.

If you are rushing early in the morning, you could still get a fruit and a cup of tea/coffee from the lobby, as I realized the next morning.

Overall, this hotel delivered the goods for a stay where I was mostly out of the hotel and using it as a pad to sleep. The breakfast and wifi were good, and in case I would be hungry midst of the night, there was in-room dining available as well. However, the shades of purple throughout the hotel still color me confused. But then, that is as much as about 70 Euros would get you I guess.
