It is no secret that the Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa is one of our favourite hotels in India. It is my go-to hotel for a quick break whenever I need to disconnect from my busy city life. I first reviewed the hotel in 2012, and ever since I’ve gone back here every year. In fact, I got married here, and every year, I’ve celebrated my wedding anniversaries here.

ITC almost bought it in 2015. Blue Coast Hotels, the original owner, challenged this auction in the courts stating the amount did not reflect the real value of the hotel. In 2016, the Bombay High Court cancelled the sale of the hotel to ITC and asked ITC to collect a refund on the price they paid.

ITC did not give up and appealed to the Supreme Court, the highest court of India. In March, the Supreme Court upheld the sale of this 250 room luxury resort to ITC by IFCI and has given six months to complete the transfer of the property.

At that point, in March, no one knew how this would play out. ITC owns and operates the ITC Hotels chain, apart from Welcomgroup Hotels and Fortune Hotels as well. They also collaborate with Marriott International and sell some of their properties under the Luxury Collection Brand.
Today, it seems, ITC has made their intention clear. ITC will be taking over the Park Hyatt Goa in September 2018, and rename it the ITC Grand Goa. They announced their intentions in the newspapers today, where they put out this big advertisement.
I am very sure there will be a lot of changes coming before the hotel takes the shape of an ITC Hotel. I am sad it will be leaving the Hyatt portfolio.
Hyatt Hotels operates three hotels in Goa, but the Park Hyatt is truly a crown jewel in Hyatt’s overall India portfolio. In case you’re still wanting to visit here while it is still definitely a Hyatt, you do have 3 months to plan a trip. The hotel costs 15,000 WoH points being a category 4 hotel.
What’s truly devastating is that this came right after I planned my next trip to the PH Goa.

Have you been to the Park Hyatt Goa?
Anyone knows if this property is excluded from the ITC SPG tie-up? It doesn’t show up for booking through cash or points on the SPG/Marriott app.
I booked a room here for March 2019 and Hyatt have contacted me to cancel. I’ve emailed ict to ask how I re book at their new hotel but no response. Any suggestions?

Ah, in case anyone missed the memo, ITC has a number of its best properties as part of the Starwood (now Marriott) Luxury Collection. ITC has several wonderful luxury properties throughout India.
So the transition of the PH Goa to the ITC Goa doesn’t necessarily bode poorly for customers or the property or the luxury experience.
This is a pity – I dont think ITC has a resort management experience – they are more city oriented hotel chain…. Plus their touch and feel is more staid …i think this property will go down… Trick will be to retain the same management …
