The quest to earn miles has been put on hold, I guess, as everyone is trying to figure out life on a day-to-day basis under lockdown. Given everyone is staying home, this has meant no one is earning miles with flying and so on. We wrote up a guide to making miles from home when you spend on groceries. Now, some mileage programmes across the world have started promotions to make you earn miles from home. InterMiles, the homegrown rewards programme has also jumped in with at least two different ways to earn InterMiles from home.
Watch Webinars at home and earn InterMiles
T.EDxGateway, which is one of the oldest TEDx talks in town, has launched a series of online webinars, and if you sign up to attend and are an existing InterMiles member, you can earn 500 InterMiles every webinar you attend till May 10, 2020. For instance, here are the two webinars happening on April 25-26, 2020, at 5 PM IST.
To earn these InterMiles, InterMiles members must register for the TEDxGateway webinars via any InterMiles channel such as the app, emails, social media, intermiles.com and so on. One needs to make sure that they use the same email address and phone number as used for the membership of InterMiles. One needs to attend at least 15 minutes of the webinar to receive the miles. The InterMiles post within seven days of registering and attending the webinar. Also, there are specific webinars where this promotion applies, which InterMiles will decide. These webinars are hosted on Zoom, so if you have any concerns on that, make peace with them beforehand. Members from outside India cannot take part in the promotion.

The second promotion, which has been ongoing since earlier this week, is InterMiles offering you miles for downloading their app and keeping it on 24×7. You also need to give the app access to your location settings. For every calendar day, you keep the app open in the background, you get 100 InterMiles.
The InterMiles app launched very recently, at the end of February 2020, almost around the time the CoVid19 pandemic was in its element. So, this is an excellent way for InterMiles to get people to download and use the app while being at home, and they perhaps hope people will explore many of the functionalities of the app as well in the process. This promotion is on from April 16 till May 3, 2020. The end date is related to the lockdown end date. However, the T&C does not expressly mention if the lockdown extends, does the promotion also extend accordingly. Again, the promotion is only valid for those in India.
I started to participate from April 17 onwards, so I hope I will get 1600 of the 1700 miles on offer. Miles will be credited within ten days.

Intermiles has introduced extremely weird and questionable processes.
They want a government ID proof to change registered email address or phone number. Yes, they want us to send our sensitive document to their random customer care (we dont know who or how it is handled). And that is when they have the authority to share our data with their partners. I have changed mail ID in 2018 and no such illogical rules were there then. I find this unannounced policy change questionable
If questioned, they compare themselves with banks as per a call with their customer care floor supervisor.
Extremely weird and questionable this company has become.
Why did you write the article now when you had registered for this on 17th? You don’t want others to earn right, why you share it then? To earn money from inter miles?
@Jacob, I find this laughable that you sit wherever you are and take potshots at others. This is a free website for you to read. So you don’t get to decide our editorial calendar and policies. Going by the same logic, I can also ask InterMiles, why did they choose to bring out a press release about this promotion at the end of the promotion rather than earlier.
We wrote this up when we could. There were other, more urgent stories to publish before this. Hope that can make sense to you.
I understand and that’s a fair point, but it being listed next to all other Airline Transfer partners for CC points redemption gives a deceptive idea. Don’t you think?
@Naveen, that is because one year ago, it used to be an airline loyalty programme in the true spirit (JetPrivilege). Sorry, I can’t fix that for anyone. Only their partners can.

What’s your view on intermiles vis-a-vis Club Vistara and other loyalty programs to fly in Asia. I was trying so search for a better value redemption on my Amex MR points and it seems intermiles isn’t as good. Even after having a higher requirement for reward flight redemption (upto 10k for domestic) i am paying a high convenience fee. Moreover it’s just make no sense anymore to convert any of the CC points to intermiles coz he reduces first while redeeming to 0.5 and then the value of intermiles points itself is about 0.3 if you compare routes fair in mid-term.
Is there any better way to make you intermiles points work? Am i missing something obvious?
@Naveen, InterMiles is a rewards programme and not a loyalty programme, so the comparison is not fair to a loyalty programme for an airline which has its own airline to redeem on.
