Hyatt Regency London – Churchill : First Impressions in 10 Pictures

After a mediocre stay at London Marriott Park Lane hotel we moved into the Hyatt Regency London – Churchill. The hotel is 10 minutes by walk from the London Marriott Park Lane and is located at Portman Square, which is a quiet street 2 minutes walk from Oxford Street. The hotel came with the strong recommendation of Ajay, who had stayed here in the past and had good memories.

The hotel is located in an elegant Regency-style building with added Art Deco features. A very imposing entrance and driveway, where a group of doormen wearing Churchill hats were waiting for the guests.

The hotel has a large and very imposing lobby which sets the tone for the stay.

At the end of the lobby, and surrounded by comfortable sofas, there is a huge, contemporary fireplace. All public areas are brightly decorated with a grey marble floor, marbled columns and pictures on the walls.

On our arrival the Hotel Manager promptly came and greeted us. At check-in we found out that we had been upgraded to a newly-renovated view room. The hotel has gone through a multi-million pound refurbishment in 2015.

On our way to the room the corridors were lined up with unique artwork inspired by Churchill.

The first thing that stood out about the room was that it was fairly spacious, as compared to our previous hotel on this trip. The room was done up in a minimalist fashion, yet there was everything we needed. With a king size bed, a work desk, a lounge chair by the window and a dedicated space to open out bags there was ample space to walk around.

The bathroom was functional with a Japanese TOTO toilet.

As a cherry on top, there was a welcome note from the hotel manager placed along with a bottle of champagne and a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries. I am a believer that recognition does not cost a hotel much, though is a wonderful gesture for loyal guests and I was touched by the handwritten note on the card.

As World of Hyatt (WoH) Explorist member we had requested for lounge access by applying one of our Club certificates to this stay. The lounge at the hotel has 2 separate sections: one for families with children and the second quieter adults-only section.

The evening spread at the lounge had a reasonable variety. Apart from this everyday there were 2 hot canapés that were served at the table.

Every morning we headed up to the lounge for breakfast and apart from the regular Club spread we also had the choice to get eggs made to order . I tried the omelette and it was done well done just to my liking.

There is a small gym inside the hotel. Although given the beautiful London weather we chose to go for a run in the Hyde Park which is only ten mins away from the hotel.

My only grief with the stay was lazy housekeeping staff who on some days came after 9 p.m. for turndown service and another day did not remove the used towels from our room. There was an air conditioning fault and the maintenance guys promptly fixed the problem within 15 minutes.

Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt Regency Churchill. There is also a nice shop on the lobby level where you can buy merchandise and books inspired by Winston Churchill.

The standard rooms in the summer season are prices at about 400 GBP a night. As a Hyatt category 6 hotel, for 25,000 WoH points this is a great choice for reward stays in London.

  1. Love this hotel as you can walk to Selfridges and take a healthy walk to the theatre district as well. Never stayed at the Marriott Park Lane but will do so for a week next year as we heard very nice things about their club lounge.

  2. We’ve stayed here twice in the last year and a half. It’s a great location. As you said, Hyde Park is just down the road. Staff were great(they’ve upgraded us twice to a “suite”). Regency lounge was very convenient. Tube stations nearby. Great Indian/Pakistani food restaurant behind the hotel also.
