HDFC Card Insurance Payment Offer: 5X points all March 2021

HDFC Bank has been stimulating it’s existing credit card member base to spend more a lot of late. Just in December 2020, HDFC Bank had a 5X offer on various categories, including Insurance payments, and now they are back with a universal HDFC Card Insurance Payment offer for everyone again.

HDFC Card Insurance Payment Offer

HDFC Card Insurance Payment Offer: 5X Rewards Points

To promote people to use the HDFC Bank Credit Cards in the insurance segment, there is a new HDFC Card Insurance Payment Offer, offering bonus HDFC Bank reward points for paying Insurance expenses on their proprietary personal Credit Cards between March 1, 2021, and March 31, 2021. One earns 5x rewards points on insurance payments with this promotion, as long as over INR 20,000 has been spent on Insurance payments on the same card through the month.

There is a cap of 2000 points that can be earned as bonus points via this promotion. The promotion is not targetted and hence does not need any enrollment. The offer is applicable to all HDFC Bank Retail and Business Credit Card customers. Corporate and Commercial cards are Excluded. If you convert an insurance premium payment to an EMI, you still get the 5X points.

Besides the bonuses, HDFC Bank has a cap of 5,000 Reward Points/day on HDFC Bank Infinia for payment of insurance, so if you paid worth INR 20,001 on a day, here is how it would work for you:

  • Base points: 667 points
  • Bonus 4X points: 2000 points (2666 points if the cap was not there).

Essentially, on the Infinia, you get 2667 points on an INR 20,000+ payment, which leads to a return of 13% on your insurance payments. Other cards will similarly have their own calculations. The Bonus Reward Points will get credited to Cardmember’s account by April 30, 2021.

Only eligible transactions going through merchant platforms will be eligible for Reward Points. Transactions going through an aggregator (like Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) may not trigger Reward Points since it entirely depends upon how a merchant submits its transactions to HDFC Bank.

Bottomline

It is fantastic when you can earn miles for stuff you are already going to have to do, such as paying insurance. But when you get 5X points to do that, it is all the more reason to do so. If you are planning an Insurance payment (tax season and financial year-end are right here), you might want to consider making your insurance payments in March 2021 itself if you intend to use this offer.

Which HDFC Bank Credit Card are you going to use this month to pay for your insurance?

  1. Thank you for the detailed information. I wanted to understand how much reward points will I get if I am making an insurance payment of 30000 on day 1 and next day 25000 with Infinia credit card.

    • I am waiting to get a response from you sir. I want to understand should I go ahead and make another insurance payment of another 25K in this offer period to get 5X multiplier on my Infinia card as I have already done 30K insurance premium payment last week.
      Any information is appreciated.

  2. One query will this cap of 2000 points is over and above 7500 multiplier points monthly cap on DCB?

    • Yes, it should be over and above smartbuy and diners partners rewards cap. 7500 is monthly cap of smartbuy purchases. 25k for diners partners.

  3. I have DCB. Did anyone try insurance payment on Amazon pay via smart buy. Does that accrue 5x reward points ? Just wanted to know as smartbuy has higher points cap compared to the offer in the above post.

    • As per HDFC’s TnC listed here (https://offers.smartbuy.hdfcbank.com/offer_details/15282),
Offer is not applicable on Amazon and Flipkart on following categories:

      – Flight Bookings, Prepaid / Gift Cards, Bill Payments & Recharges
      – Purchase of Video Gaming Consoles & Hardware
      – Prime membership
      – Amazon Fresh orders
      – Amazon Pay Balance
      – Jewelry / Gold coins or its equivalent’

  4. I have HDFC LTF regalia card, SCB Ultimate & recently got Amex Platinum travel card by your referral. Have an LIC insurance payment of 20K this month, I have 3 options to make this payment

    1. HDFC Regalia card can fetch 2000 rewards points (3.5 – 5% returns based on redemption type) on 5X offer this month
    2. Make payment by Amex Plat travel which would help me attain 4 L limit (~6% returns on 4L spend)
    3. Flat 3.3% returns by SCB Ultimate

    Which one is best?

    • What am I missing here? You can calculate the returns from each card. But you can’t do the maths i.e. which of 6%, 3.5-5%, 3.3% is higher?

      • Just wanted to ensure from the credit card experts that my understanding is correct & obviously 6% from Amex seems better than other options, but i get that full 6% only when i make a spend of 4L in a year. Hence the confusion

  5. Anyone who whats the cap on DCB for rewards on Insurance premium payment? Just like the 2,000 cap mentioned by Ajay on Infinia
