HDFC 10X Reward Points to Credit Card Customers this Diwali

The festive season promotions are all on their way. American Express was the first off the mark, announcing the Diwali Sparkles 2018 promotion. Now, other banks have started flowing in with their offers. One of the most prominent offers, which has gone live today is from HDFC Bank, who are offering a whopping 10X Reward points for Diwali celebrations this year. The best part is, it is even valid for co-brand credit card holders.

HDFC 10X Reward Points Diwali Happy Hours

HDFC Bank’s Diwali promotion is slotted as happy hours this year, where you will get 10X Reward Points on all Apparel & Electronic spends between 5 PM and 9 PM India Standard time, from today through November 10, 2018. No registration required. In Assam, Orissa and West Bengal, the promotion went live on October 12, 2018, already. If you have a Jet Airways co-branded credit card, you would be given 10X JPMiles instead.

HDFC 10X Rewards

How does HDFC Bank know you have bought Electronics or Apparel? They are going to look up the classification from MasterCard/Visa for the Merchant Category to figure that out. That should be easy for Point of Sale transactions, but tricky for online purchases.

The promotion is valid on a minimum transaction of INR 5,000, and you can buy on EMI as well. The cap of miles that can be earned on this promotion is 15,000 Reward Points/JPMiles. Different cards of HDFC Bank have different earning ratios, so do check your card earning ratio for the points. There is one essential condition, which will keep you from combining this promotion with the regular 10X offer. It says,

Max cap of Rs. 15,000 Reward points/Jet Miles applicable at promotion level no two offers can be combined during the offer period

Bonus Reward Points would be posted after 90 days of campaign end date. 1X points would be posted during the transaction, and additional 9X points would be posted within 90 days of campaign end date. Here is the link to the entire promotion T&C. Debit Card users will get a 5% cashback.

HDFC Diners & Infinia Cardholders should be able to milk this for a 33% rebate.

Bottomline

I like this promotion. It is simple and hits on a simple point. People go shopping in the evening for the festive season. They buy clothes or electronics (or Jewellery?) during the festive season. So, you get a massive reward for buying within these hours from any merchant across India.

What do you think of the new HDFC Bank Credit Cards promotion for HDFC 10X Reward?

  1. Any idea if this is only on retail POS? Doesn’t seem to say much about how they’ll figure this out for online purchases.

  2. Is this over and above the 25,000 bonus points you get on Diners Black? So effectively, can one get 40,000 bonus points on one Diners Black card for the month?

Is the 15,000 points capped only on “retail / at store” purchase under this?

      • It’s not about combining. Basically, you saying, if I purchase 75k worth in a single txn, I get 25k points. then I make a purchase of 45k, I will get additional 15k points? Correct?

What about retail pos txns? Any clue?
