Emirates Status Extension for all Skywards elite members by 12 months

One of the world’s biggest airlines, Emirates, has been quiet, sort of, on how are they going to be treating member status due to the CoVid-19 situation. The last announcement on Emirates status extension came in April 2020, where they announced a small breather.

At that point in time, Emirates had said,  Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members, with a tier status review between March 2020 and September 2020 who are unable to retain their existing tier, will have their existing status extended until December 31, 2020. Members with reviews before March 1, 2021, receive 12-month status as long as they met 80% of the usual travel requirements. This meant Silver members needed only 20,000 tier Miles, Gold members 40,000 and Platinum 120,000 to retain their status.

Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members with a tier review date prior to 1 April 2021 would retain their current status for a further 12 months with just 70% of the usual travel requirements. Also, miles expiring in 2020 were extended until the end of the year.

As we can all gather, Emirates did not foresee a long term impact on air travel at that point in time. However, this has now changed.

Emirates Status Extension by 12 months for everyone

All Emirates Skywards Platinum, Gold and Silver members will have their existing tier status extended, as per a new announcement from Emirates.
Emirates Status Extension

For members with a current tier review date between September 2020 and August 2021, your tier review date will be extended by 12 months. This will reflect on your profile after your existing tier review date. For example, if you have a tier review date of March 30, 2021, this will be adjusted to March 30, 2022. For retaining your status next year in this example, it will be based on your travel activity between March 30, 2021, and March 30, 2022. Emirates will revert back to the original qualification requirements in this case of 50,000 tier miles for Gold, 1,50,000 tier miles for Platinum and 25,000 tier miles for the Silver tier.

For members whose tier status has been extended in 2020 and their current tier review date is October 31, 2020 (refer above), their tier review date will be extended by 12 months from the original tier review date. For example, if you had an original tier review date of March 30, 2020, this will be adjusted to March 30, 2021.

Bottomline

This is great news for Emirates loyalists, who may have not been able to fly much and enjoy their hard-earned status, including people like me. Everyone who has elite status gets a 12-month status extension, and they will get a one-year forward to retain their status.
