You can now buy Club Vistara points

Six years after the programme was launched, Club Vistara has added the ability to buy Club Vistara points to the programme. The new feature, which went live yesterday, allows you to purchase points upwards of 1000 points in the programme to top up for your next flight or generally buy miles towards planning a trip later on.

Under the new “Buy Now” feature, you can purchase between 1,000 – 20,000 CV Points per transaction. The maximum purchase limit is 5,00,000 CV Points in 12 months period. The validity of purchased CV Points is 36 (thirty-six) months from the date of purchase. The amount paid towards the purchase of CV Points will not earn Tier Points and will not be counted towards tier evaluation criteria. Club Vistara members can only avail of this facility online by logging in to their account through the Vistara website. Buy CV Points facility is not available at Vistara Call Centre and Airport Ticketing Offices.

Club Vistara’s Buy CV Points feature can be used on any flights operated and marketed by Vistara for yourself or any of your selected nominees (up to 8 pre-added). These CV Points will be valid for 36 months from the issuance date and will be auto-credited upon successful payment. Vistara’s website does warn, however, that it can take up to 48 hours to get these points in your account, so plan accordingly.

Is it a good value? Club Vistara has priced their points at INR 1.25 + GST per point, which looks like a fair value for these points. Remember, JetPrivilege also used to market their points at INR 1.25 per point, and given the abundance of JPMiles in the market, I did not share that view. But given that Vistara has a reasonable award chart for economy class tickets, it might make sense to do the maths and see if you can get ahead in terms of pricing by buying miles for a ticket or not.

I would say that this option makes sense to top-up points when needed or when award seats are available, and cash tickets are expensive. Over a while, I would also expect Vistara to offer CV points at a discount or with promotional offers such as 20-40% bonus points, which is when we can talk about speculative purchases.

To claim for GST, members must fill in the relevant details at the time of purchase as per the applicable Goods and Services Tax law.

Bottomline

You can now buy Club Vistara points in multiples of 1000 points at the price of INR 1.25 per CV point from now on. This would make a very good option when you want to redeem a ticket but don’t have enough points. There is still a lot more for Club Vistara to do in this department, and I’d expect them to add the ability to the family pool and transfer points in the coming times.

What do you think of the ability to buy Club Vistara points ?
