Upto 15X Bonus Membership Rewards Points booking with American Express Travel

American Express is rolling out many promotions given this is the time of the year where the wallets open up. First came the American Express Diwali Sparkles offer, and then I found out about the new American Express Travel Offers, which are offering all the way up to 15X Bonus Membership Rewards points.

Up to 15X Bonus Membership Rewards Points for Amex Platinum & Centurion Cardholders

Bonus Membership Rewards Points

American Express Platinum Charge Card & American Express Centurion Card holders get up to 15X MR points through March 31, 2019.

  • You get 5X MR points for domestic flights booking with American Express Travel website
  • You get 15X MR points for domestic & international hotel bookings (prepaid bookings).

Terms stated on the Amex Website state:

  • Cardmembers will earn a total of 15 Membership Rewards points on every INR 50 spent on hotel bookings on the American Express travel website (both for international & domestic prepaid hotel bookings) instead of the usual earn of 1 Membership Reward Point on every INR 50 spent. Hence, in effect, the earn is 15X of the original earn rate.
  • Also, Cardmembers earn a total of 5 Membership Rewards points on every INR 50 on airline bookings on the American Express domestic travel website instead of the usual earn of 1 Membership Reward Point on every INR 50 spent. Hence, in effect, the earn is 5X of the original earn rate.

What beats me here is that Amex Platinum earns 1 MR every INR 40 spent, so clearly the terms intend to imply 15 MR points on every INR 40 spent, not on INR 50 spent. Just some sloppy writing there.

Membership Reward points will be debited in case booking is cancelled. No promo code is needed to avail the offer. Bonus Membership Rewards Points shall be credited within seven days of completion of a transaction on the website.

One thing to note about both the promotions is that there is no cap on the number of Membership Rewards you can earn with the promotion. Here are all the cards on which this promotion would be valid

This promotion makes sense if you have sizeable domestic travel booking coming up.

What do you think about the American Express Travel promotion? Are you going to be swarming in Membership Rewards points booking your travel with Amex this year?
